Time and Date Properties synchronization error

I'm currently running Windows XP Home Edition. For the past several months,
whenever I try to synchronize my clock, I get the following erro message:

"An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with time.nist.gov."

I still get the message when I try to use the time-a.nist.gov or
time.windows.com. These are my only three options. Am the only one getting
this message? Does anyone know how to fix this? Is there a patch? Thanks!

Wrong -- Been there, done that. Nothing in 'these forums' works as you
suggest.

You are wrong and haven't searched properly. There have been *many*
threads about this here.

You are also wrong when you say "These are my only three options." You
can enter the name of any time server you want.

Re: Time and Date Properties synchronization error

I have tried several other servers and none work (from
http://tf.nist.gov/service/time-servers.html).

As to entering the proper search text to find appropriate threads, can you
offer a suggestion? I've been through all I can find using a variety of
keywords.

Two points:

1. You are using the awful web interface to read this newsgroup, and
that's the slowest, clunkiest, most error-prone method there is. Do
yourself a favor and switch to a newsreader, such as Outlook Express,
which comes with Windows. See
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/ou...snewreader.htm

2. A newsreader is the best way to participate, but the best way to
search is by using Googlegroups advanced search at
http://groups.google.com/advanced_search?q=&

Re: Time and Date Properties synchronization error

Just curious - do you have anything to add to this thread or, are you simply
a critic?

Re: Time and Date Properties synchronization error

I am IT Support for the EPA and we have multiple PCs that all have the
same issue; the computers are all running Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2.
Using Windows Firewall. All PCs are NOT in a Domain but just in the same
WorkGroup. Using an active LAN connection to the internet. Open Date &
Time Properties Box and Internet Time Tab. Check mark is on Auto Sync
with an Internet Time Server. There are over 8 Servers listed in the
Drop Down List. Attempt to Update Now to any of the Servers and
following appears: "An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing
with {Various Server Site Names used}. I have Turned Off Windows
Firewall and tried again and same results. I added several suggested
Time Server Names into the list from your Forum as well as other Tech
Forums but same error message each time. I have confirmed that the
Windows Time Service is on Auto and Started. I have stopped
unregistered, registered, started back up the w32tm.exe but same
results. I have added TCP Port 123 for Internet Time Service within
exceptions list of Windows Firewall but same results. After all of these
steps and trying over 15 various Time Server Site connections the
results are the same error above each time. This is on multiple PCs set
up the same way. I have been told that there is a supported hot fix is
now available from Microsoft that will resolve this issue once and for
all. We do not have the MS unlimited support contract. Is there still a
way to obtain this Hot Fix and does it really resolve the above issue
even after all the troubleshooting steps I have already taken? Thanks
for the support.

Re: Time and Date Properties synchronization error

I have read replies from yesterday but that does not help my issue. I DO
NOT know the MS Hotfix number for this Time Synchronization Update
Error. I was told that there is one that exist but never received any
furthere info. I attempted to call Microsoft Product Support but they
would not help me. They wanted an Credit Card Number or Extended Service
Contract Number. I tried to tell them that it was just to receive an Fre
Hotfix for a known Time Sync Update error. I was told they were not even
allowed to address my issue until payment information is received. I
contacted Dell, who provided all of our PCs and was told to contact MS
regarding this particular issue. Does anyone know where else I can be
able to obtain this particular Hotfix Patch so I can install it onto
multiple PCs that all are not able to receive Time Sync Updates from ANY
of the Internet Time Server Site Address' or IP Address' that have been
given in all of these Posts/Threads. Thanks for any support provided.
