| Shortcut Key Strokes I am trying to find/create ketstrokes to start the screen saver (which is password protected) at my work site. I dont's want to decrease the time delay for the screen saver starting as that will interfer with my work efficiency. I would like to start the screen saver with keystrokes with I leave my workstation momentarily. Any help is appreciated -- Dewayne |

Right click on the shortcut Click Properties in the popup menu. Under the Shortcut tab click once in the Shortcut Key input box. Press the key you want to use in conjunction with Ctrl+Alt. Ctrl+Alt should automatically be added to the beginning after pressing the key you wish to use. Click Apply > Ok. Test by pressing Ctrl+Alt+your chosen key. -- Brian A. Any help is appreciated Do you just want the screen saver to come on or do you want to lock the desktop so non one can see what's on it or use it? If the latter, press the Win key +L, enter to lock it. No one can see the desktop or access it and then after whatever period of time is specified the screen saver will kick in. You'll need to enter the password for the user account to unlock the desktop. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

| Re: Shortcut Key Strokes Screen saver files are generally located in C:\WINDOWS\system32 as .scr files. If you know the name of the screen saver to launch i.e. "logon.scr" then simply create a shortcut to it anywhere (even in the same folder). Right click the shortcut icon and select Properties. From the window that pops open locate the box that says Shortcut key "None". Press any alphabet key - i.e. the S key. You will see the command box change from None to Ctl+Alt+S. Click Apply and OK out. Now when you press Ctl+Alt+S the screensaver should start . If this doesn't work then you may need a third party app. Harry Ohrn MS MVP [Shell\User] www.webtree.ca/windowsxp "Dewayne" <Dewayne@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:428E8526-A67C-48A6-A33F-C6F2E896E556@microsoft.com... >I am trying to find/create ketstrokes to start the screen saver (which is > password protected) at my work site. Any help is appreciated Two MVP answers (one even corrected the wrong answer with another wrong answer) and all wrong, close but WRONG!!!!!!!! How do those people get certified? Make a short cut with the target as follows: MyScreenSaver.scr /s Where MyScreenSaver is the name of the screen saver you use, and the /s (the part the MVP's missed) indicates to START it immediately. You can then assign a keyboard shortcut to the resulting .lnk file. |

| Re: Shortcut Key Strokes Sorry to fill you in that the response we gave is correct and works, I use it myself. On the other note, MVP's are not all certified and it's not required. -- Brian A. Not to long ago in when you did this I called you on it, asking you to show how in fact the response was wrong. You never did. I wonder why? -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |
