| Problem with Canon camera I've had a Canon Powershot A70 digital camera for over two years. My preferred method of transferring pictures is with the USB cable and Windows Explorer. You plug it in, it comes up on the left as "Canon Powershot A70". Highlight it and your pictures come up in the right pane. Up until two days ago, I could drag the pictures to the folder of my choice or hightlight them, right click, pick "copy" and then paste them to wherever. But now, when I do that, nothing happens. No errors, just nothing happens. If I double click one of the pictures, it displays in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. If I plug it into either of my other two XP computers, it works fine. If I reboot THIS computer into Vista (ugh) it works fine. If I take the card out and put it in my card reader, it works fine. It's just THIS computer, running XP, and transferring with the USB cable that I have problems with. And for what it's worth, I have an older Sony digital camera that works the same way, and *it* works fine too. It uses basic Windows drivers... there are no Canon drivers. Also it *does* allow me to delete images from the camera. Google hasn't been my friend. Only one case of the same thing and no resolution to it. -- --- Long live Fat32! --- |

That turned into a near disaster as I lost my mouse (which isn't even USB) as well. Eventually I got everything back, but the original problem remains. -- --- Long live Fat32! --- |

| RE: Problem with Canon camera I have a seperate rarely used user account that I tried it in. Have also tried plugging it in a couple of the rear USB ports. Still no joy. | RE: Problem with Canon camera I've made no ram changes. I have 2Gb of Crucial memory installed. I've never had or am not now experiencing any memory problems. I have a gig stick of Kingston on the shelf, but I don't feel that has anything to do with it. It works fine in Vista. | Re: Problem with Canon camera Hello again----Menno Hershberger---I do Digital photography every day..right now my second PC is useing a Firewire to Capture some DV from a BBQ Party..I thought I would check my EMAIL/Hardware should NOT be an ISSUE if you followed the Microsoft recommedation of COMPATIBILITY..actually READING the BOX your "stuff" came in..I use a Card Reader I bought at HOME DEPOT..a GE[11-in-1]Card Reader..I would say never use a camera CD software for JPG-capture..use a Card reader and USB 2.0..that's about all one can say in this forum..Its now a matter of having a CLEAN Install of your OS..if you have XP SP1..I would get rid of it and purchase a XP SP2 OS..or VISTA if you are so inclined..basically I have found that there are two really great PROCESSORS for Digital photography..The Pentium 4 and the Celeron D..P4 for Digital Video and Celeron D for Digital Still photography..XP Home Edition for STILL Photography..and XP Professional for Digital Video..RAM choices..////I use 512MBs for my Celeron D Processor[2.53GHz]and PC2700 RAM in a DELL PC(DE051)..for my Pentium 4 CPU[3.0GHz]I use PC3200 RAM at 400MHz..so respectivly its 333MHz in a Celeron D configuration and 400MHz in the P4 configuration..I add a second 512MB RAM Module after all the components are LOADED in the P4 PC..I also Re-Install my XP SP2 OS with a single RAM Module installed..I have found every time that useing two RAM Modules during an OS Re-Install will cause a mal-function in the process(everytime)..PLUS..Pagefile needs some adjustment///for a SINGLE RAM Module of 512MBs you can just use the SYSTEM MANAGED SIZE=754MBs..as you add more RAM Modules you need to use the CUSTOM setting of 700/750...or...500/750...basically useing the Defrtagmentor Program to adjust a single GREEN Stripe in the HDD IMAGE for SYSTEM(C:/).. .................................................. .................................................. .................... other than the above....I would research my CPU and RAM as a matching pair. -- its REAL Time...
