How do I change the drive letters that the CD and DVD drives are mounted at?

Plenty of info in XP "Help and Support" - use index for "drive letters".

You'll need to be logged in as admin... Go to the control panel and
switch to classic view if not already in classic view. Click on
"Administrative Tools" then on "Computer Management"

In the Computer Managemnet window that now opens, go to Disk Management
(should be on the left, second one from the bottom)

Now, a list of the drives Windows can see will be displayed in the two
windows on the right. Right click on a drive and choose "Change Drive
Letter and Paths" Then click on "Change" and choose a new letter.

Of course, remember that if you change a drive letter, you might break
some installed software as the path to it will no longer be valid.
