corrupt files

I know I have a corrupt/virus file in one of the accounts on this computer.
Every time I run a scan, it freezes my anti-virus or spam software. Found the
folder that the file is in, but every time I try to delete it I get a Windows
error and it tells me it has to close the running program. Have tried safe
mode to no avail. On-line scanners are no effect either. Can't even delete
user. Running XP Home with SP2. Also tried roo=kit and nothing found Any help
would be great.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353
Run a scan from here online:
http://www.trendmicro.com
http://www.ca.com
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
Download Avast Cleaner from here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html
Lots of tools to download and disinfect your machine:
http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/site/Do...eeRemovalTool/

1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
How to manage Add-Ons:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883256

2... You need to be sure your system is clean from malwares and Viruses by
scanning for them
Scan for malwares from here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-...e_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5

"AutoRuns for Windows v8.61 By Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell"
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys.../Autoruns.mspx
The tool above will show in real time the running processes and can show
what in the registry, DLLs on your machine and you can use it to
remove/Delete a file or edit the startup programs.
HTH.
