| Computer Browser service causes VERY slow startup Hi I have a small LAN with two XPSP2 boxes and a Linux box running Samba. They can't browse, I get a Permission problem dialog box trying to open the Workgroup. If I run Samba on the Linux box and force it to be the Master Browser, the Winboxes see the Samba server, but not themselves. However, if you happen to know the name of a share, you can enter it directly into the address bar and and the other machine becomes visible. If I don't run Samba, then browsing doesn't work at all. And to the point of this rambling post, starting the Browser services results in a VERY slow login, like 5mins. I though the machine had frozen. It's set to auto atm, and doesn't appear to be running. During all this I've encountered hilarious things like running Explorer and having it hang trying to find _anything_ (like, my hard drives) - right hand pane blank. browstat tells me that "Browsing is active on domain" with the Linux box gone, and that it's the master browser if i run samba that way. I'm going around in circles. It's only two machines: we can create a share and IRC each other to hand out the name, but that ircs me (hehe) Any websites that have a setup guide? I'm pretty sure that if I could get the Winboxes to work together with one of them as the MB I could figure out the rest. ta Rob |
