System restore stops at a certain point?

My computer was plagued with virus and malware. I was also getting
"Kernel Data Inpage Errors". So I decided to just start anew. So I
started a destructive restore with my Windows Xp recovery disc. There
is a blue track bar that tells the progress of the restore. But it
gets stuck at the same point. I left the computer on for 8 hours last
night and it was stuck at the same part this morning. Anyone know what
could be going on?

Normally failures to install is a hardware problem. Have you contacted the
computer tech support? Also see this link:

So how do I get the sea tools hd tester to boot when I can't even get
to the desktop?

Re: System restore stops at a certain point?

RTM:

"Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from the drive manufacturer.
If you aren't sure what drive you have or can't find a utility for it,
Seagate's SeaTools Desktop can test non-Seagate drives. Download the file
and make a bootable floppy or cd with it. Boot with the media and do a
thorough test. If the drive has physical errors, replace it."

You don't need to get to the desktop on the problem machine. You need to
download the tool on a working machine, run it to make the bootable floppy
or CD, then boot the problem machine to the floppy or CD (may have to change
BIOS boot order.)
