Partition Magic 6 ok with XP??

I am upgrading from W2000 Pro to XP Pro in my main desktop machine, along
with a major hardware upgrade (M/board, CPU, RAM HDDs etc). Can I still use
my old Partition Magic 6 with XP, or must I also upgrade that?

Just a wild-assed-guess: that version is quite old and probably won't
handle all of today's larger drives. Don't even know if it will
handle NTFS drives.

Re: Partition Magic 6 ok with XP??

i usually make polite and
respectful suggestions, but
in this case i must say

"DO NOT USE YOUR VERSION OF PM
ON A SYSTEM HAVING XP SP2"

your version is not compatiable
and will "crash" your disk(s) and
you will cry and cry....why?

i switched to Acronis Disk Director
and never regretted it.

The latest PM is likely to be
compatiable, but I don't think
it is as good as acronis. do
some comparison, but don't
use your pm (period)

Check the Symantec web site; I recall they had info about which worked with
XP.

Re: Partition Magic 6 ok with XP??

Partition Magic was far superior than acronis...

however Norton BOUGHT it and KILLED it because they had GHOST.

Anyway... I too use acronis now for Vista.. but for XP I still use partition
magic 8.1,
that was the best product of its kind.

Re: Partition Magic 6 ok with XP??

Yep, know what you mean about killing PM. I've just perused their website,
and there is barely a mention of PM at all, and certainly not my version, and
"all support has been discontinued". I certainly could not expect much backup
from them, so why would I waste my 60 bucks with them?? I'm going to check
out Acronis....

Re: Partition Magic 6 ok with XP??

Do you by any chance use Symantec System Tools as your virus? I ask because
most folks don't know that the newest version of PM (which Symantec
purchased 2-years ago) is on the CD but can only be installed if you go to
the folder and execute it separately.

Just a wild shot.

I keep Partitioning and Imaging Tools up to date because they are worth
their weight in gold.

Re: Partition Magic 6 ok with XP??

I agree. Acronis is the way to go (if your ready to update).
Acronis Disk Administrator (resize, split, merge ... everything) and Acronis
True Image (ver 10) are great tools to have.

Re: Partition Magic 6 ok with XP??

Acronis True Image 8 will not see SATA drives. You must get version 9 or 10
(latest).
I have ver 10.... works great.
