change the machine after having installed the xp

hi,

i have installed a license of windows xp professional in my old computer a
few months ago. Fortunately, I have found an entire computer for 350 euros,
used only for a demostration.

The questions are:

a) if I change my old hard disk into the new computer: I will have to pay
another license, or reparing the system will be enough to run us I have been
doing since I installed It in my old computer?

b) the new machine have a 64 bits processor of intel. Is it recomended to
install a windows xp professional (not 64 bits) in it? (It has the
motherboard preparated for raids.)

thanks

Is the version of XP you installed OEM or retail? That is the key question.
If retail it is transferrable. If it's an OEM version, by the license it
cannot be moved to a new computer. It can only be tranferred by tranferring
the whole computer with XP installed.

If the version is retail you will have to do a repair install of XP after
moving the drive. See this link for info on moving a hard drive with XP
installed to a different system

Note, in some cases if the hardware changes are significant enough, a repair
install won't do it, in which case you'll need to do a clean install. Make
sure you have a full backup of important data and all the original media for
installed apps, in case a clean install is needed.

The decision to use XP Home or Pro is not really dependent on whether the
processer is 32 or 64bit.

Re: change the machine after having installed the xp

changing CPU type would require a REPAIR install.
worse case a complete fresh install.
make sure to backup your data before moving hard drive.
