You cannot control what a CD or DVD drive reads off of a disk. You can set
the AutoPlay handelers for Audio and other parameters.

To change how your computer handles multimedia content
1 Open My Computer.
2 Under Devices with Removable Storage, right-click the device you want,
such as a digital camera or CD-ROM drive, and then click Properties.
3 On the AutoPlay tab, click the multimedia content type you want to change.
4 Under Actions, click the action you want Windows to perform when it
detects the media type you selected.

Notes
To open My Computer, double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
Your removable storage device must be attached to your computer for it to
appear in the My Computer folder.

Thanks, Wes, for you quick response. AutoPlay settings don't stick. Both the
CD and DVD drives come back to music even after "applying" and restarting the
computer. How can I get my selections to stick? I just want the music format
to go away so that I can read/write mixed data?

Ok Wes, here goes my simpliest English description of where I am:

1 I have used Iomega Hotburn to make copies of mixed content (numerical
data/words/graphics) since 1994 with no problems, UNTIL
2 Up pops the Autoplay display which normally I cancel and continue
successfully. I just hit what it landed on without thinking - it landed on
MUSIC and up popped some Sony Music program. Not thinking that I would have
to live with this forever, I didn't realize my problem until I tried to burn
a mixed content CD. I use my DVD drive as a source and CD drive as
destination.
3 In between times I dusted off a copy of a CD track cleaning program that
I had never used. I thought that after 5 years of CD/DVD drive use that it
might be prudent to clean the lenses. Now Hotburn only will burn the track
programs onto anything I try to copy. While not responding to my selections.
It just goes ahead and does what it wants to which doesn't match my intent.
So maybe I have introduced another problem?????
4 You showed me where to make setting selections Under My Computer/CD and
DVD drives/properties/Autoplay. I made selections as plain vanilla that I
could - "mixed content" blank disc" offer it to me everytime, etc and I
selected APPLY and OK
5 Hotburn cannot see my mixed content disk and fails to respond to "Source
and Destination" selections under Copy CD.
6 Hotburn apparently doesn't care what format it is copying since it never
asks music, mixed content, pictures, etc. It apparently just takes what it
sees and copies it. However, it does ask whether to copy directly from the
disk or from an image of the disk residing on the computer.
7 I go back and look at Autoplay selections and they are not where I left
them, even when I immediately RESTART the computer to "fix" the settings.

I hope that my use of English has given you more insight on the gremlin(s)
I'm dealing with.

BTW, both drives now allow me to look at a disc contents via Windows
Explorer, which is what I want.

Hello Wes, I'm back from being out of town and have blank CDs and am trying
to use Windows Media Player to burn data CDs so that I can dump the 13 yr-old
Iomega Hot Burn that has been giving me trouble.
I have selected "other" and have been able to add my folders to the library,
but cannot get the library to display the folders so that I can drag them
into my newly titled playlist.

Will Media Player allow me to burn "data" from my computer onto a CD?

I have a feeling that somewhere I must add my data types "media tags" such
as dot xls , dot doc, dot rtf, dot dwg file extensions somewhere, but can't
find a place to do this?

To enable XP's recording wizard.

Open My Computer, right click the CD Drive icon and then click Properties.
Click the Recording tab.
Check: Enable CD recording on this drive
Click: Apply
Click: OK

Wes, EUREKA!!! How incredibly simple and it was there all the time nearly 5
years.
Going thru your instructions, my drive apparently was already set as a
recording device so all I had to do was to:
1 right click on my folder and select COPY
2 right click again on the same folder and select SEND TO > CD Drive G
and continue the process, manually keeping track of folder size so that I
would not exceed the 700 MB limit. Properties on the CD show full after the
first copied file.

Wes - Help! I don't know much about One Note except that I can have it
running and recording my meetings even while I am typing the minutes at the
same time.

My problem: Once I have recorded the audio, I want to copy that recording
to a CD disc to save it in my files.

How is this done?

Wes - Help! I don't know much about One Note except that I can have it
running and recording my meetings even while I am typing the minutes at the
same time.

My problem: Once I have recorded the audio, I want to copy that recording
to a CD disc to save it in my files.

How is this done?
