| A Problem with WinFax I have 2 computers networked together. One is newer and running XP Pro, the other a couple of years old and running XP Home. Both have WinFax Pro 10 in them. In the newer computer Winfax is used regularly, and it functions correctly in all regards. In the older computer it has rarely been used, and only recently did we try to log entries into the phonebooks. But as we attempted this we found that the tab key, instead of advancing to the next box, closed the software. Attempting to left-click the cursor into the next box gave the same result. After checking settings and fiddling about for a bit I uninstalled the software, including Symantec's "How to Manually Uninstall Winfax" (dated 2002), then reinstalled, but continue to get the same result. I have tried other programs on that computer to see if it would happen there, but so far as I can see it does not. Symantec no longer supports WinFax, and I was unable to find anything relevant in their archives. I would appreciate any help anyone here can give me, including recommendations for new faxing software. I thought WinFax was pretty good and I was surprised to see that Symantec had dropped it. Is faxing really a thing of the past? |

I thought WinFax was pretty > good and I was surprised to see that Symantec had dropped it. Is > faxing really a thing of the past? > Hi Fillard, We still use Talkworks 3.0 (can't remember which Winfax version that was, maybe 8?) It still works fine in XP. Although I have to remove the modem inf files that Windows wants to use and force it to use the ones I want it to use. Finding compatible modems was a stretch but we still have a PCI board based on the Rockwell chipset and a USB modem using the Conexant chipset (Conexant=old Rockwell), and both work for voice, data and fax. Did you try using Alt-key combos instead of clicking? Like Alt-L to "_L_og abandoned or unanswered calls", ALT-C to "Log _c_alls without messages". One thing that is/was nice about Winfax/Talkworks. It allows 2 lines at the same time. We use it for phone answering and faxing. -- Terry ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address. | Re: A Problem with WinFax I have been using WinFax Pro 9.0 / TalkWorks for years and hate to give them up, but after installing XP I am having a lot of problems. At this point I am down to TalkWorks not being completely installed because it gets hung up on WFXCTL32.EXE (spooler?) and won't let me go any further. When MS automatically updates my computer and it requires a reboot the program can't open on it's own and I am left without an answering machine at night. Can anyone help me? The version of winfax you're using is not supported any longer, as far as I know - check out the link I posted already (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...0?OpenDocument) I personally avoid Winfax and all workstation fax software, and would recommend an hosted fax service like Efax. You can use it for sending and receiving faxes via email. |
