Sound keeps disappearing

A few days ago I lost ALL sound. I restored back to a previous date and all
sound came back. Tonight, it all disappeared again. Restoring once again
gave sound back.

Is there some other way to cure this?

Please, if you're providing step by step instructions, make them simple--I
can find my way around but I'm no pro at it.

Thanks so much,
shirley

What things are you doing between when the sound is working and when it
doesn't? What changes were made, what programs run?

Is the system clean of malware? How do you check for that?

Re: Sound keeps disappearing

The first time it disappeared I wasn't doing anything. It was on, but I'd
walked away for a few hours--but I knew there was sound before I walked away,
then when I got back on, I realized there was no sound.

Second time, I can't be positive, but I think there was no sound when I
booted up.

As for malware, I think I'm okay--I use Spyware Doctor to clean up once a day.

You are running an Anti-Virus program right? Which one is it? Also one
program for non viral malware is not good enough. No one program catches it
all. I'm not saying your system I infected, I don't know that, but just
running Spyware Doctor isn't enough for all the non viral nasties. I
suggests you also periodically run Ad-Aware SE Personal, SpyBot S&D, and
occasionally HijackThis.
