| Dell is bringing XP back. Amid significant customer demand LOL nobody wants vista.. lol http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1040_22-6177619.html As I predicted.. yes I did... :-) People just want the best OS ever designed! >>XP again dedicated to all ya nice cool vista fans..... Dell is bringing XP back. Amid significant customer demand, the computer maker said on Thursday that it has returned to offering the older Windows version as an option on some of its consumer PCs. Like most computer makers, Dell switched nearly entirely to Vista-based systems following Microsoft's mainstream launch of the operating system in January. However, the company said its customers have been asking for XP as part of its IdeaStorm project, which asks customers to help the company come up with product ideas. "We heard you loud and clear on bringing the Windows XP option back to our Dell consumer PC offerings," Dell said on its Ideas in Action page. Users get to vote on various suggestions, and the notion of bringing back XP got 10,000 "points," making it among the most popular requests but well below top picks such as adding Linux or OpenOffice.org to its PCs. Windows XP systems became scarce, but not impossible to find, after Vista arrived. For example, Hewlett-Packard said it would continue selling XP on some machines aimed at small and midsize businesses, while CompUSA still stocks a couple of business-oriented XP systems in its retail stores. Lenovo has also continued shipping XP on many of its business systems. Starting immediately, Dell said, it is adding XP Home |

| RE: Dell is bringing XP back. Amid significant customer demand I paid full price for my vista ultimate and my xp pro and given the choice I think xp Pro is the better work orientated OS, and yes the best of the OS's thus far Microsoft has put forth. (I do hate the new IE however in that it's so busy protecting itself or me that I never get anything accomplished without serious frustration. Firefox is an easier product and I don't have the constant blocks on active x's or pics or ....... click heres or did you see the bar above....yatta yatta yatta blah blah blah. Linux is looking better all the time. | Re: Dell is bringing XP back. Amid significant customer demand You are probably too young to remember this event... General Motors introduced a car named Corvair in the '50's. It was a danger, like Vista is to computers. We need a Ralph Nader of the computer field to get MS straight, like Mr. Nader did GM then. Corvairs are now obsolete; none are on the road, which they were at their introduction. Look familiar ? /Sometimes it takes the "incompetent" to open eyes of all of us. And I love it when people blame their own incompetence on others. I run Vista Ultimate x64 with an AMD Athlon x2 4600+. It runs just fine. If you can't duplicate that, then the problem is with you, and not Vista. Spread your FUD somewhere else, please. |

| Re: Dell is bringing XP back. Amid significant customer demand Ralph Nader was an incompentent moron on a crusade to sell books. The first Corvair was the 1960 model and was built thru 1969. 10 years. Nader didn't straighten out anything. Malvern wrote: > You are probably too young to remember this event... | Re: Dell is bringing XP back. Amid significant customer demand I am running Windows XP X64 professional on a 4x 2.6 ghz core desktop system with 4 GB ram my laptop is a 2 x 1.6 GhZ core with 2 GB ram running Vista Home premium. I must admit my feeling is that my laptop sometimes feels perkier than my desktop, and sometime the reverse. However the times my desktop feels really superior is when using my 3D software that utilises all 4 cores . The basic OS feels no better for either of them My only concern with Vista is that like all steps in the Windows family, it tries to lock down advanced users from tweaking their system to get better performace for their particular use (though i understand this also makes it easier for non techie users). I come from pre-dos days, and I like to have full control over my system configuration, not using 'wizards' to do rough guess at how best i want it to run. I am also not so keen that much of the power of my pc is used to run DRM kit that I have no interest in, as I use a 40 Inch LCD TV to watch my DVDs, not a laptop which to me is a tool to do some work away from the house :-) And just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons here, though i don't say LINUX is for everyone (cos you still need to know too much about your hardware and techie stuff for casual home users), my Umbuntu LINUX runs in a way that makes Windows feel like its running on a 286 ;-) Andy "HeyBub" <heybub******.com> wrote in message news:OBcLi80gHHA.208@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Bill wrote: >> Vista must be really sinking sales.
