| two xp operating systems? I recently installed xp pro on a machine but upon startup I get a screen asking me what xp pro version I want to boot into and presents me with two instances of XP Pro. The first version boots fine but the second presents me with partition problems. Considering it is a fresh install I wonder why I'm being presented with two options! Any advice please? Peter |

| Re: two xp operating systems? Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter. Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths" to delete incorrect boot paths. If the above does not work for you, then: Right-click MY COMPUTER and select: Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the SECOND entry. Your boot.ini file should then read similar to this: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOW S [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows Professional" /fastdetect -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows Client -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Mr X" wrote: | I recently installed xp pro on a machine but upon startup I get a screen | asking me what xp pro version I want to boot into and presents me with two | instances of XP Pro. In conversational threads bottom posting seems to be the accepted norm so that someone joining the thread halfway through can read through the whole from the post he joined on. However in help groups top posting is quite usual and of course either method is actually a matter of personal choice. One could argue that bottom posting without trimming of the original message is very wasteful of internet resources, as each message contains the sum of the one before. :o) |
