I have an Acer TravelMate C100 with XP Tablet OS and SP2 but need to resore to factory. i have 3 disks that are marked 2-1, 2-2, 2-3. i fear i am missing disc 1 because i cannot boot nor find an executable on any of these. Any ideas where/how i can get a bootable system restore disc??
Thanks for any help.

Re: Acer TravelMate C100 lost restore disk

Hi Ticket, No i have'nt. Its a shame because i havent been able to use this Acer and actually ended up purchasing a 2nd laptop instead of the software i need because the price was pretty close. Do you have any ideas for this Acer?

Thanks for your reply.

Re: Acer TravelMate C100 lost restore disk

Hi, I can advise a few methods via a XP PRO install cd. TPE and XP PRO are near the same only PID - XP KEY matters. This important you enter the XP KEY on the back or any TPE cd key that turns XP PRO to Tablet edition. 1. Create an iso image of an XP PRO cd. Use an iso editor to put files from the recovery cd into the iso, as far I as know important ones are setupp.ini and oembios*.* files, it should be enough to overwrite those files. 2. You can use a XP PRO install cd. What I advise is boot using usb floppy to DOS. Format the drive with fat32, then copy the xp pro cd contents to the drive. Then copy the files I mentioned on 1st method from recovery cd and over write XP PRO ones. Before installing , in DOS, type "smartdrive 20000" this will make installing much faster. Now in DOS, goto the folder you copied XP install cd, goto the i386 folder and type "winnt" press enter. This will begin the installation, and it should work... 3. You can still use ONLY and XP PRO install cd using a XP TABLET PC that does not belong to you but it would be illegal. I could install TPE 2005 SP2 using a TPE CD KEY found on the net but I prefer to use official one. FINALLY; I need a small favor. I also have an ACER TMC102T ; taken from a friend and lost recovery disks. I have the sticker on the back. When I tried a few XP SP1 and SP2 install cds none of them accepted the XP key on the back. I tried modifiying setupp.ini file and pid codes, none helped. I do not want to use another XP key, I wish to make it legal. Could you please email me the setupp.ini file and oembios*.* files on your recovery cd? Best Regards, Burzek

Hi Burzek, Thanks for the reply! I was hoping to get thru iteasily, but i guess that is not an option. one of these methods should work...i am thrilled to try! Worse case scenario is i keep XP pro on it.

As for your request, please send me your email and i will send what you need. I have 3 laptops and a few copies of the many windows OS's. (lynnski93********.com)

Re: Acer TravelMate C100 lost restore disk

Hi,

It is not necessary anymore, luckily, I did play with setupp.ini file a bit more and , using XP SP1 , it accepted original cd key. :)

I wish you success with your installation.

Regards,
Burzek

I have first boot disc and discs 2-1 and 2-2.
But I would need disc 2-3.
