tablet pc - writing with stylus issues

The OS on my tablet pc is windows vista. When I open windows journal
and use a stylus to write, the writing is not at all smooth - the
lines are jagging, half the writing is not captured by the screen. How
can I fix this?

Re: tablet pc - writing with stylus issues

First, have you calibrated your pen, and also set the handedness (Control
Panel (Classic View)/Tablet PC Settings? If you're already done that, I
would check the manufacturer's web site of whatever Tablet PC you're running
for the latest drivers qualified for Vista. The display drivers and
possibly other ones (Wacom or Fine Point) could make a difference. If you
still have difficulties, please post back with information about which
Tablet PC you're running, whether the Vista is an upgrade or clean
installation, what your display resolution is, etc. It would be helpful.

I have done all of the above: The tablet pc has a clean install for
Vista - its a new HP tx1000.
The display driver is NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150, resolution is 800x1280

the capture improves a bit when I reduce the resolution to the
smallest possible - 720x1280..even then
the handwriting capture is not good enough.

Re: tablet pc - writing with stylus issues

I knew that was the Tablet you had before you gave the model. :)

I have written a review about thetx1000 and the handwriting is definitely
the drawback. There's a reason that HP is marketing it as an entertainment
machine and it does a good job with that.

The handwriting is more like that on a PDA. The best suggestion I can give
you is to write with the stylus always on the screen within a word. Raising
the stylus tends to give the results you're describing.

If you want to see the review, there's a link to it on the home page of my
site or to go directly there -

Re: tablet pc - writing with stylus issues

I don't know if this will help, but I experienced a similar issue with my HP
TC4200.

When I upgraded to Vista, the Vista Installer used the Microsoft driver. The
Msoft driver worked well, but the buttons on the side of the screen didn't
work. So I tried the Beta of the Wacom driver. Using the beta driver, I
experienced coarse resolution and jagged text like what you are describing.
I went back to the Msoft driver.

When HP released the Wacom driver into General Release, I tried it again,
and it worked extremely well. No jaggies at all.

Hope this helps.

Andy

Re: tablet pc - writing with stylus issues

It might be two issues:
1) Installation of the latest driver helps often in such cases. Take the
latest driver from Wacom!
2) As far as i know some of the latest Vista NVIDIA drivers generates
problems with other device drivers. If you have installed Vista NVIDIA
driver, I would try with the generic graphic driver from Vista again, just to
make sure that problem does not originates from the graphics driver.
