| Problem with text writing and insertion I have a portege M200. Prior to updating the latest tablet XP edition from Microsoft, I was fine using the text pen writing feature for any of the Office desktop tools. But recently, notably after MS update, the "keyboard" that appears when I am using my pen to enter text starts to "flash" on/off while I an writing in the yellow area and I cannot enter text as before, any one had a clue to why? Thanks. |

The behaviour of the TIP has been changed with SP2. It only pops now when needed and disappears when no longer needed. This was done as an improvemnet because of the requests in users' feedback. And it's changed again in Vista (due to users' requests). But you can alway open it by clicking on the TIP icon in the Quick-Star area of the TaskBar. Rainald |

| Re: Problem with text writing and insertion Thank you, Rainald. This "improvement" rendars the vitual keyboard supporting pen writing not operable, surely it is not an "improvement" but more of a bug! My problem is not "opening" the keybaord, its that it would not become active long enough for me to "write" even 1 character. It also will not insert any character I managed to write into the application! I guess the next best option for me is to remove SP2 and the update to the keyboard supporting the pen... Apart from security issues you'd just loose too much. Rainald |

| Re: Problem with text writing and insertion Since updating to XP SP2 and the Tablet PC Edition 2005, have you downloaded and installed the latest Wacom drivers? Check here: http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/driver.cfm for the version 4.95-6 Penabled Tablet PC drivers. As for the Tablet Input Panel closing on you, the behavior when you're using the TIP in Undock mode is for the little floating TIP icon to appear on-screen when the cursor is in a text input area AND the pen is within about 1/2 inch of the screen. If the sensor portion of the pen is lifted out of the digitizer range, if may be thinking the pen input is finished. -- Chris H. It stays on the screen and is better behaved for some apps that the TIP. Of course, it does NOT support handwriting, only taps for keys. |
