What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vista?

Hi :)
Can anyone tell me what languages is available for handwriting recognition
in vista tablet? And if there are more on the way? I’m installing a vista
tablet pc for my boss, and we have been hoping to se a Danish version a few
years, but to my disappointment I can see that its not included by default in
the Danish vista. We do student counseling and the tablet combined with
OneNote looks very promising, but without native handwriting recondition its
kind of useless. Giving students tools that doesn’t handle their native
language is pointless.
I have been googling, and browsing around Microsoft.com but I haven’t been
able to find any info regarding this. Can anyone provide me with some info or
where to find it? I would like to be able to tell my boss that the Danish
version is on its way… but I have no idea if it is just wishful thinking from
my part? :)

Re: What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vista?

Microsoft doesn't generally announce what's planned until it's almost ready,
so your question may not get answered as you'd like.

I know that Danish was part of the MUI for Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
2005.

I wish I could give you a better answer. Hopefully, someone more familiar
with language options will post.

Re: What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vista?

If you're running Vista Ultimate on the Tablet PC, you can have 15
additional Language Packs available from Windows/Microsoft Update, including
Danish. There is also Chinese (Hong Kong S.A.R.), Chinese (Simplified),
Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian,
Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, and Swedish. Note: You MUST have
Vista Ultimate installed, none of the other Vista versions have these, and
then visit the Windows/Microsoft Update site to obtain your choice(s).

Re: What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vi

But do these language packs actually deal with handwriting recognition? I am
waiting for the Norwegian version of these packs, as the Tablet PC is close
to useless to us with only the English version installed.

Re: What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vista?

Hi Jonas,

Handwriting recognition is currently available for English (US), English
(UK), Japanese, Chinese (Traditional), Chinese (Simplified), Korean, German,
French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, and Portuguese (Brazil).

You can still use OneNote or Windows Journal to take handwritten notes, but
at this time you would need to leave them as ink, rather than convert them
to text.

Sincerely,
Letha

Re: What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vi

If you're running the edition of Vista which includes the pen
functionalities, you already should have it among the selectable languages,
Rob. See the Handwriting Recognition section here:

Dear Letha,

I'm looking for Portuguese handwriting recognition for my tablet pc. I'm
running Windows XP Tablet Edition with Office 2003. What do I need to buy?
Office 2007? Vista Ultimate? Or both?

Yours,
Luis Mitchell

Re: What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vi

This is one of the most requested languages we see. I haven't seen any
official announcement about when (or if) Portuguese will be made available.

http://abletfactory.com (Missing 'T' is intentional) has some SPIDs that may
address the issue for you.

Re: What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vi

Chris,

How can I download the "Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005
Recognizer Pack, TRPSetup.exe? The Microsoft Server blocks me out--it gives
this: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." My OS (WindowsXP Pro)
is validated by Microsoft, and I am using IE 7.

Do I need the Global IME, too?

Re: What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vi

Letha,

I did "Recovery" on my Toshiba Satllite R15, Tablet PC recently. (I have
Windows XP Tablet PC 2005 as an OEM.) I did the procedure of "Language"
part in the Control Panel, but I do not have the handwriting recognition
engine (TRPSetup.exe). .

Toshiba says that the Windows XP Tablet PC 2005 (on the Recovery CD) does
not have it; I have to get it from the Microsoft Windows Tablet PC site
separately. (At this time, I cannot download it, because the Microsoft
Server blocks me out.)

Letha, is Toshiba correct that I have to get it from Microsoft?

Thanks.

Re: What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vi

You cannot install the recognizer pack on Vista. That was for the Windows
XP SP2 version. Try using a Restore Point back to a time when it did work
properly. If you're not familiar with System Restore, open Help and Support
off the Start Menu and it will guide you.

Re: What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vi

Are you using this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
?

Are you properly installing the ActiveX Control which is required? Also,
make sure you're properly selecting the language version (Change Language
section) you want.

Re: What languages are available for handwriting recognition in vi

Yes, I went to the link (many, many times). I received this: "Internet
Explorer cannot display the webpage." The internet connection is fine. My
problem is difficulty of getting that file and being unable to get DirectX as
well.

Any suggestion?
