M400 Hinge Sloppy?

The hinge on my M400 seems kind of sloppy, allowing maybe 1/2 inch or
free wiggle at the bottom corners of the screen. If you've got an
M400, is it also like that, or do I (er, the computer) have a screw
loose or something?

Thanks,

The same thing happened with my Acer C300. As with any loose screw, if
you continue to use the device, thereby moving the joint, you will
eventually completely wear out the threads in both the screw and what it
screws into. I ended up needing to replace my hinge. This took me several
hours and is not recommended for anyone but experts. You should get to
any decent laptop repair center as soon as possible. Have them: A) Expose
the loose screws by removing any covers they need to. B) Remove the loose
screws. C) Replace them with some thread locking compound. If this isn't
done as soon as possible then the entire hinge will eventually fall apart
and will have to be replaced.

P.S. If the thing is under warranty then have them replace the entire
hinge now. Don't wait till after the warranty expires.

On my unit, the bottom corners are always in contact with the two
raised plastic ridges on the top of the keyboard case. It seems to
keep tension to the hinge thus there is no wobble on mine. I'd contact
Toshiba and see what they say. I'm thinking something backed out or
broke.

Re: M400 Hinge Sloppy?

Good advice, gents ... the machine is my life, so standing it down for
a long time is problematical. When I get back from my next gig I'll
see if I can put a high priority order in at the local laptop place
.... they did a good job when something happened to my previous machine
....

Thanks,

The plastic ridge at the back of those little plastic bumps is new.
Originally, all those little bumps were of the same shape. My
original M400 didn't have it, but after I got it back from it's month
long repair, those back bumps had a the ridge at the back, making the
screen way more stable.

Sounds great, except the part about month long repair ...
