Alternative Input Panel

I want an input panel that allows me to enter text wherever there is a
text entry box. I have heard there is a shareware or opensource
application that does this already, but am having trouble finding it.
It could be used for both OpenOffice and Firefox and any application
not explicitly modified for the tablet input panel.

Re: Alternative Input Panel

You may be thinking of MessageEase or AlphaTap.

There is Fitaly at www.fitaly.com. It is a small virtual keyboard. I use
it on my palm pilot but haven't used it on the Tablet PC.

You can always use Microsoft's OSK (On Screen Keyboard) its included as
part of XP - look in the accessibility tools. I keep mine as a shortcut
on the quick launch bar - its very handy for Excel.

If you use Firefox on a tablet you MUST install the GeckoTIP extension.
Makes the standard TIP work really well.

Thanks for the suggestions, but all of these are keyboards. I want to
use the stylus to write. I wonder if i can subclass the existing
Tablet Input Panel. A buddy told me about
http://www.evernote.com/en/products/ritepen/ which i may get to try
tonight. I will let you know how it goes.

Yes, RitePen is very nice but is not an input panel per se. This is a write anywhere, and the ink is converted. Maybe the distinction is just in my own head ... anyway... I played with the latest version in Office 2007 and is quite nice.

Even though the floating TIP button doesn't appear for some text fields
for some programs that are not TIP aware, you can still use the TIP
button in the task bar and open the docked form of the TIP which will
enter text anywhere the cursor is, regardless of compatability.
