Tablet input panel - writing recognition

Hi guys.

My writing recognition features in xp talet 2005 doesn't insert text.
I can write as much as I want but when I press insert text, the tip clear
the text, but it doesn't appear in the application.

I've tried upgrades and every hint I could find on this forum and other, but
to no extent.

I use an italian version of my sys, perhaps this could be a reason?

Thanks in advance

(I have tried every solution I could find... need some new insight...
I have had this problem for some months now, so restores are not an option
)

P.s. sometime the text insertion works, but for a very short time i.e. a
couple of written phrases... after that it does not recover

Re: Tablet input panel - writing recognition

What program are you inserting the text? Is the cursor in an active
position in that program?

Re: Tablet input panel - writing recognition

Hi Chris.

I want to use the TIP that comes with Win XP and, yes, I have checked the
flashing cursor to be in the right position.

As I said before, I've tried EVERYTHING I could find and installed every
possbile update/fix but ...
I have noticed that if I try to configure the language bar, I can add
components (writing recognition for tablet, for journal etc etc) BUT if I
click to configure them, nothing pop up.

I also used "sfc /scannow" hoping but....

Is there anyway to fix tablet components without using the recovery disks
(i.e. clone disks of the pc "as it was sold") to avoid reinstalling
everything?

Chris, thanks again

Re: Tablet input panel - writing recognition

BTW, the "write anywhere" feature from MS pack does not start at all, and it
has never been.

I think this might be related to tip not inserting words in the selected
application.

Moreover, sometimes I am able to insert a couple of letters of words but
then the recognityion\insertion feature stops working so I think the
necessary components are installed.

Why it works for a short time once every a while, I have not understood. It
doesn't seem to follow any logic (i.e. I tought it could be a memory error, a
comflict etc etc and I did a lot of trials, but I have not been able to find
a logic in this strange behavior, if there is one)

Come on guys! I trust in you!

Thanks in advance, as usual, and best wishes for an happy new year

Re: Tablet input panel - writing recognition

Almost sounds like you've got a deadly mixture of the original Tablet PC
Edition and Tablet PC Edition 2005 on the system, Alemar. The Write
Anywhere portion was part of the old Tablet bits, and went away with the
Tablet PC Edition 2005. You mentioned previously that you're using the
Italian version, so if you open Control Panel and go into Regional and
Language Options, can you confirm what I suggested you check ("Extend . .
..") in a previous post?

Also, on the Languages tab, then Details... please confirm that the Default
input language is listed correctly as Italian, and then please post back
with what you have (line-by-line) in the Installed Services section. There
should be up to four items listed directly under Advanced Text Services.

A) I have tried EVERYTHING but, I'll list all that you asked for
(english translation of the italian names I see in my sys)

cntrolpanel\internatnial setting\language\details\

settings
input language:italian It\Eng
installed services:tablet pc correction It\Eng
tablet pc correction 4 journal It\Eng
ink correction It\Eng
tablet pc text insertion It\Eng

Advanced
extend.on
deactivate.off

B)My Error: not write anywhere but Memo Desktop in Microsoft Enhancement Pack

Believe me, I am "desperate"... I have everything tried but a reinstall....

Re: Tablet input panel - writing recognition

Moreover...

I have just noticed that the vocal recognition (I did not use it since the
italian vocubulary was poor) is gone (nowhere to be found, neither control
panel nor somewhere else)

Is there a way to reinstall the missing components without a complete
reinstall?

I have an Acer C300 with recovery disks...

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Re: Tablet input panel - writing recognition

Since there are multiple issues, and it is definitely not normal at all for
components to just "disappear" I know it might be painful, but I'd suggest a
reinstall. I don't recall if the Acer recovery media offers a "repair"
install over what you've got, but I'd suggest trying it. Make sure you back
up whatever personal files you have on the system (emails, favorites,
address book and the My Documents folders, beforehand.
