Tablet newbie

Our company is in the process of experminting with the tablet pc. It is
running Windows xp tablet edition, with journal etc. My question is this : Is
there a "Driver" file that allows one to "Print" a form from MS Word to
Windows journal? I know that this can be done on the tablet but I need to be
able to "Print" from a desktop to the journal format so that the form can be
used by our field people on the tablet without them having to do the
conversion. I have looked everywhere that I can think of but keep coming up
empty. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

God Bless all.

After many long discussions about this a long time ago, I am pretty sure
the consensus is "No." However, you can always have the user on the
desktop print to the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer printer on
the desktop then send that to the Tablet which will have to print that to
Journal. I know it is a tedious work-around but I think it is the best we
can do for now.

Re: Tablet newbie

Grant,
Thank you for your response. Does Microsoft have any plans in the near
future to create a "Driver" for this purpose? Again thank you for your
assistance.
May GOD bless

Not that I know of. Vista is supposed to be the same OS on either a
desktop or Tablet and it will likely have some form of Journal included.
However, it is entirely possible that certain components like Journal
will only be installed when installing on a Tablet PC. Perhaps somebody
else here knows more. I haven't had time to mess with Vista yet.

Re: Tablet newbie

Nope, Journal is always installed in the editions that support it (all but
Home Basic), regardless of hardware.

The Journal printer is installed when you first run Journal on Vista.

Re: Tablet newbie

Is journal printer available for Winodws XP Pro SP2? Or do we have to get
Vista in order to use on a desktop? Is there a beta version of VISTA that one
can try on a desktop and see if this will do the job? I thank you for your
assistance.

May GOD Bless

Re: Tablet newbie

Sure, Vista is at RC1 with RC2 expected this weekend. You can order a DVD
from Microsoft.

There is no way that I know of to get it on a Windows XP desktop without
installing the Tablet PC edition from MSDN.

RE: Tablet newbie

Why use Journal? Why not OneNote? I know that OneNote 2007 can be set up as
a printer.

Because Journal will create a Journal page that is exactly the same size
as the "printed" page.

RE: Tablet newbie

Pardon my niaivity, but why is that an advantage? Perhaps (in fact, very
likely) I'm not fully aware of all the capabilities/advantages of Journal and
how best to employ either.

TIA for replies - /s/dgarbis

By "that" I assume you mean the ability to reprint the exact same size as
the original would have been printed. Well, it depends on your needs.

After thinking about it, it seems that the original poster's needs may be
best met by having someone with a Tablet PC print all these forms to
Journal ahead of time. Then make the .JNT files available to all the
Tablet PC users. If the forms are different every day then it may be
necessary for them to keep a Tablet PC at the office just for printing
these things.
