| Good Tablet PCs with Core Duo Can anyone suggest good models of Tablet PC to look at. I prefer something with Core Duo CPU. Many thanks. RK |

| Re: Good Tablet PCs with Core Duo I'd start with the comparison charts on Tablet PC MVP Terri Stratton's fine web site: http://thetabletpc.net where you'll find all the stats on the units. Since the Duo Core units are relatively new at this point, you may not have much feedback yet. -- Chris H. But since I was just drooling over these this morning here is the link to Toshiba's Tablets. http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/...tpcfam&seg=HHO I have been seeing some complaints about the M400's lately but I don't know if that is indicative of a trend or not. I recommend that you avoid the Acer brand Tablets. I have not been pleased with their overall quality of construction or tech support at all. |

I've owned it for 6 months (well, it's been at Toshiba for a month of that time) and its been in for repair for screen problems twice (not the blank screen on standby issue) . It's currently at the depot waiting for a part since 9/13/2006 and this is with the upgraded ServiceExpress warranty. They've promised it would be fixed in "2 more days" more than once. There also seem to be a lot of refurbished M400s for sale, which is somewhat disconcerting since the M400 has only been available this year. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ I do not work for Microsoft. |

Thanks for the warning. So, does anyone have any recommendations based on long term reliability? |

| Re: Good Tablet PCs with Core Duo Steve, the Motion M1400 has been around a lot longer than a year. The LE1600 replaced it over a year ago. I have an M1400 with the ViewAnywhere screen and it's not given me one bit of trouble. I've had it almost since they were first released. I don't remember the exact date of release, but most reviews seem to have been in late spring, early summer of 2004. -- Terri Stratton Microsoft Featured Community http://thetabletpc.net Windows MVP - Tablet PC http://writepc.com - a site for UMPCs "Steve Jain" <noreply.-@-.essjae.com> wrote in message news:5lf0i2l5c4vr9ttmoaoj8f8bpj2b24g0ij@4ax.com... > On Sun, 1 Oct 2006 11:11:01 -0500, Grant Robertson <BOGUS@BOGUS.com> > wrote: > >>In article <1159712391.566105.21770@m73g2000cwd.googlegroups. com>, >>kroger@princeton.edu says... >>> Can anyone suggest good models of Tablet PC to look at. My M400 has been rock solid. Our company also buys a lot of Toshiba gear, and the M400 has been neither better nor worse than any other Toshiba that we've bought (M2, M3, M5, M400, M200 etc). It helps that we have next day onsite warranty to get these things fixed though... Cheers Ken |

| Re: Good Tablet PCs with Core Duo Apologies, Steve. I misread your post. You said M400 and I read M1400. You're right that it's only been out several months. I first saw the Toshiba M400 at CES in January and it was some time after that before it was officially available. -- Terri Stratton Microsoft Featured Community http://thetabletpc.net Windows MVP - Tablet PC http://writepc.com - a site for UMPCs "Steve Jain" <noreply.-@-.essjae.com> wrote in message news:kls0i252f8lqn4a6euiti2fimuq9uqlse6@4ax.com... > On Sun, 1 Oct 2006 17:34:40 -0700, "terri" <terri@no.spam.mvps.org> > wrote: > >>Steve, the Motion M1400 has been around a lot longer than a year. Yeah, where I used to work bought about 25 Dell desktops. All are working great now (after exchanging 5 of them). Not a good percentage from somebody who has the best reputation I know of. I think, in the end, you have to go with a good company with a longstanding reputation, and then be ready to push them to exchange the machine at the first sign of trouble. That can sometimes take some work and some "creative social engineering" but it is better than being stuck with a lemon. |

I've been using the Toshiba M400 for a few months now and have found it to be a reliable work horse. I know there have been some issues for a few people, but in general I've found nothing in this laptop/tablet to change my past impression that Toshiba is a top tier laptop vendor. I'd take a hard look at what you need beyond the Core Duo CPU and make sure you can find it in what's available. When I was looking the only other machine I was willing to look at would be the IBM X41, but without the Core Duo processors and the lower screen resolution (I develop software) the Toshiba was my only option. There are good machines out there so define your needs and you can limit your search based off that. |

I'm glad you got a working M400 and I truly hope you don't have to have it repaired. A top tier vendor would not make customers wait a month or more for a repair or repeatedly and consistently disconnect calls to the only department that has any authority to resolve situations. > >I'd take a hard look at what you need beyond the Core Duo CPU and make >sure you can find it in what's available. | Re: Good Tablet PCs with Core Duo That seems to be a trick with a lot of tech support these days. Get sent up to the next tier, wait on hold for a long time, then suddenly, click - dialtone. Call back, and have to go through the entire routine again with a different first level TS, then back to hold for second tier... repeat adfinitum. It's one of the most frustrating experiences to go through and one of my biggest complaints. -- Terri Stratton Microsoft Featured Community http://thetabletpc.net Windows MVP - Tablet PC http://writepc.com - a site for UMPCs "Steve Jain" <noreply.-@-.essjae.com> wrote in message news:snb8i29urvafi4j3ntc8r8p34jjmdajga8@4ax.com... > On 4 Oct 2006 14:21:22 -0700, "Mike H" <mike8675309******.com> wrote: > >>kroger@princeton.edu wrote: >>> Can anyone suggest good models of Tablet PC to look at. | Re: Good Tablet PCs with Core Duo not that i would know of which vendor has a good duo core cpu tablet, however i've made my fair share of experience with both toshiba and dell. I used to only get toshiba labtops for myself and my girlfriend went with dells. i noticed that toshibas quality and support both declined over the years to a degree that is plain annoying and costly at best (especially when looking at the lost time). Well, Dell is Dell, i guess we all know what to expect from them. more trouble than it is worth it, luckily she never used any of their sys for serious work. A year ago i switched to hp. good products and a way better support. i dropped my tablet and damaged the screen. it was replaced in no time and at no cost. the best part was the phone support, never waited for more than 5 mins and no indians... hope this helps too "terri" wrote: > That seems to be a trick with a lot of tech support these days.
