Slipstreaming a Setup CD - att. Josh Einstein

I broke this off the thread "xp tablet installation\integration" in
order to avoid possible further confusion for Tyler A.

Josh Einstein had explained:
> You can't just use a XP SP2 CD. You need a Windows XP Tablet PC
> Edition CD 1 & 2. The second CD will be prompted for when you supply
> a serial number that is for tablets.

With the CDs from HP for my tc1100 I did not even have to do that.
The whole process did run through without being prompted for a serial
number.

Interesting enough that you were successful - different to poor Me.
As my CDs were SP1 only, I had wanted to avoid the later updating and
thought I could do it with a slipstreamed CD (as done often with the
"normal" OS CDs, manually and without a tool).
I carefully made all the steps I'm used to (without a tool).
But obviously I must have made a mistake somewhere. The slipstreamed
CD (now incl.
SP2) did boot fine and the initial install went right through. But I
was not prompted for the 2nd CD and so the extensions were not
installed. Too bad as I had to do it all over again with the original
SP1 CD ...

As for sure I'll have to make a fresh install from scratch some day
(possibly when having got a bigger HDD), I'll try it with the tool
next
time.
Is there anything special one has to look after in order to make the
install procedure to continue with the 2nd CD and install the tabletpc
extensions in the "Components" directory?

TIA
Rainald

Re: Slipstreaming a Setup CD - att. Josh Einstein

When I slipstreamed it, I used a Tablet PC CD image that already had SP2 on
it, but I slimmed down the install so that I could fit them both on the same
CD. I also was using a MSDN CD key so I can't really say for sure what would
have happened had I used an OEM key.

I know that there are lots of knowledgeable people on Tablet PC Buzz that
have done this. Or at least there were before it became an abandoned
wasteland. I don't know if you can still dig up some of the old messages
there.

I'm confused, are you making your own images or using the manf restore CDs?
