| Game Development for the Tablet PC I am a graduate student at the University of Michigan and I had a question on game development for the Tablet PC. It is my graduate project to develop a game for the tablet PC that uses the pen as the input device and is written in C++ using DirectX. As most people have figured out Tablet PC's dont offer the greatest graphic cards out there (not as if I planned on doing any Hi-Rez graphics) but what would be the best way to get started? I have tried to run a few DirectX samples but they only locked up the system. Does anyone know of a good shell program or anything like that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

| Re: Game Development for the Tablet PC I'd suggest you post to the microsoft.public.windows.tabletpc.developer newsgroup. That's where most of the devs hang out for information. You can also check online at http://msdn.microsoft.com/windowsvis...c/default.aspx where there's a whole lot of information and very good links available. -- Chris H. | Re: Game Development for the Tablet PC It's a common misconception that Tablet PC's have weaker than usual graphics. This is an issue that affects most laptops, not just tablets. Most laptop/tablet makers in the interest of cost and battery life, choose integrated graphics over discrete graphics. However, integrated graphics have come a very long way. The Intel 950 GMA is a very capable chipset. I don't claim to know much about 3D game programming, but I know that there's several other factors that you should probably be more concerned about such as CPU and hard disk speed. There's a variety of options for these as well. Most tablets have options for Nvidia/ATI based graphics, 7200 RPM hard drives, and dual core CPU's. Check out Gateway's convertible tablet - it's very customizable. www.gateway.com -- Josh Einstein / Tablet PC MVP Einstein Technologies, LLC ----------------------------------------------------- Tablet Enhancements for Outlook 3.0 Now Available Unleash the potential of Outlook on your Tablet PC, Origami, or UMPC.
