Questions on tablet PC....?

Questions on tablet PC
***********************************

1. Is there a new OS for Tablet PCs coming out in 2007 ?
If so, is it worth waiting for ?
If I buy a tablet PC now, will it be upgradeable to any new OS ?

2. How good is the handwriting recognition ?

3. any suggestions on buying Tablet PCs ? and accompanying software ?

Thanks
Ava

Re: Questions on tablet PC....?

1. The Vista operating system, which is currently in beta and expected to
be released to the public in January, 2007, will contain the handwriting
recognizers and Tablet functionalities built into most available SKUs. Some
nice, new features - which won't ever be part of the Tablet PC Edition
2005 - which include "training" of the Ink recognizer, and such items as
"Flicks" are included.

1a. Depends on what you purchase now. Most manufacturers are listing
models which will be "Vista compatible" currently. Most have more advanced
graphics display capabilities than, say, a model from a year ago. It is
also recommended you have a minimum of 1 GB of RAM on the unit for the best
performance with Vista.

2. Very good. See the remarks above.

3. Check out Tablet MVP Terri Stratton's web site -
http://thetabletpc.net - for comparison charts and additional information on
current models. Software is developing even as we speak, with a new edition
of Office (2007) due out this fall, and such programs as OneNote 2007 will
be even more improved on Tablet PCs.

Re: Questions on tablet PC....?

I agree with other user. Hold out a little longer if you can. Most of the
manufactures are changing over to the new Core 2 processors and should have
some additional enhancements for better Vista performance.

I personally am holding out for the next version of the IBM tablet. The
current model is quite nice and can't wait to see what the successor has in
store.

One other thing to consider, is that there are some rumors going around that
because Vista is being pushed to after the holiday season, some of the
manufactureres may offer free upgrades to Vista for the holiday shopping
season. It's worth holding out for another month or two.
