| Re: network tablet pc range Are they the drivers that came installed on it? I had this problem with the OEM drivers on my Linksys wireless network. A quick visit to Intel's web site to get the latest wireless drivers fixed the problem right up. I also uninstalled the ProSet wireless manager and let Windows manage the wireless network. -- Josh Einstein / Tablet PC MVP Einstein Technologies, LLC ----------------------------------------------------- Tablet Enhancements for Outlook 3.0 Now Available Unleash the potential of Outlook on your Tablet PC, Origami, or UMPC. | Re: network tablet pc range Are these drops of the connection every minute or so? If so, you've probably got IEEE 802.1x Authentication enabled. Check the Properties of the wireless connection icon in Network Connections, go to the Wireless Networks tab, highllight your LAN in the window under Preferred Networks and then tap the Properties button. Next, go to the Authentication tab, and make sure there's NO check mark in the box next to "Enable IEEE 802;1x authentication for the network." If this is the case, and you're simply using WPA or WEP encryption on your LAN, the networking device will be finding the LAN, connecting and then failing out trying to authenticate (which is being refused by the router). Then it does the process over and over. 8-) -- Chris H. | Re: network tablet pc range Yes, the EVDO card could do that. Are you disabling it when you're at home? It shouldn't be doing it, but it might be "bridging" your home networking adapter and fouling up the connection. -- Chris H. | Re: network tablet pc range I don't think there's any real advantage to using the Intel utility to manage the wireless except that I think it supports passphrases whereas Windows does not. I read another post of yours in this thread that leads me to believe maybe your wireless adapter is "roaming". Meaning, if you have another access point somewhere in your vicinity that is configured to connect automatically, Windows might toggle between them if the signal strength is better than the one you're connected to. Even if you're in the same room with an access point, conditions can sometimes cause a neighbor's access point to temporarily be preferable to yours. If you go into device manager and right click the network card and hit properties, on one of the tabs you should see something like "roaming aggressiveness". By default it's in the middle but you can change it to be more "sticky". That is, it won't roam unless you lose the signal to the access point you're connected to. You could also look in the list of wireless networks and remove any configured access points that aren't yours. Sorry for the vague instructions, but I am fully on Vista now and don't have a machine with XP handy to go find the exact screens and steps. Hope this helps.
