| vista tablet pc; 14.1 screen, good video card There seems to be a dearth of vista-now tablet pc choices. I went to the toshiba, lenovo, panasonic, and motion computing web sites. 1 tablet pc model each, all 12.1 screens. Went to tabletpc.net. All the models described were XP. I am interested in a tablet pc with larger than 12.1 inch screen and a video card that has some horsepower/is not "shared". Please advise. |

| Re: vista tablet pc; 14.1 screen, good video card Thanks for mentioning that. When released, the models were all running XP, but since the release of Windows Vista, that's changed. I neglected to update the models with the new OS after launch. Thanks for the reminder. Wanting something larger than 12.1" pretty much puts your choice at Gateway or Toshiba. Asus makes a 13.3" widescreen, but that's pretty much the size of a widescreen 12.1". It's a very nice machine, though! Graphics on all run Windows Vista Aero and there are options for higher graphics capabilities. -- Terri Stratton Microsoft Featured Community http://thetabletpc.net Editor/Owner http://writepc.net Microsoft Windows MVP- Tablet PC "dlazenby" <dlazenby@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6A2D0434-7273-4B51-A0C0-A500FCBFE2C6@microsoft.com... > There seems to be a dearth of vista-now tablet pc choices. | Re: vista tablet pc; 14.1 screen, good video card Thanks for the speedy and informative reply. I have an older Toshiba (1505) tablet PC that is slow as Christmas, but I do like Toshiba. I did not see a Toshiba tablet pc that is Vista-shipping that is larger than 12.1. The only models I saw were the R400 and the M400, obviously the same box with some minor hardware/software differences. "Both" of these are 12.1 inch screens; there is no choice to customize to a larger screen. The other older models that have a 14.1 inch screen ship with XP (R20, R25, Tecra M7). In my way of thinking, if it does not ship with Vista now (and that is not a customization choice) it really is not an optimum machine for Vista. Also you would have to pay for a 2nd OS and then do the upgrade process which is always a wild card. The ASUS R1 model looks good. It looks like I could get a good deal from AGear Notebooks (2gb ram, 80 gb HD, . It looks like I can only get it with Vista Business. I was thinking that Vista Ultimate would be the way to go. Your thoughts please regarding Vista Business vs Ultimate for the tablet PC. "terri" wrote: > Thanks for mentioning that. | Re: vista tablet pc; 14.1 screen, good video card I would definitely recommend Ultimate, especially if you plan on using the Tablet for multimedia. Media Center is part of Ultimate, not business. Remember that with Windows Anytime Upgrade you will be able to upgrade for much less than the cost of an entirely new OS. You can find more about it here - http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...981033.mspx#EM The Toshiba R400 is an exciting addtion to Tablet PCs, even if it is a 12.1" model. The HP with AMD Turion should be available fairly soon as well. As for the specs on older machines, Toshiba has been the leader in Tablet PC graphics. The M7 should run Vista well, but in this case, unless you get a free upgrade with purchase, you would need to purchase Windows Vista. Many of us have Windows Vista running on Gateways, older Lenovos, etc. -- Terri Stratton Microsoft Featured Community http://thetabletpc.net Editor/Owner http://writepc.net Microsoft Windows MVP- Tablet PC "dlazenby" <dlazenby@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:38B9960A-071F-42D7-B896-AAEC055B0E05@microsoft.com... > Thanks for the speedy and informative reply.
