Tecra M4 Hibernate Problems

I can't seem to make the Tecra m4 sleep or hibernate.

When I select hibernate from the shutdown menu, the display would blank out
immediately. The fan will increase speed and the hard drive would blink.
From experience on WinXP this seems like normal behavior however...

The fan would die down, not shut down for a few seconds, then speed up
again, the HD would do its blinking. Then it would repeat the cycle again
and again... until the battery completely dies 1 hr later.

what's worse is that when its in that hibernate seizure. I can't wake the
system. The display would remain off. I hit the keys, use the mouse, use
the pen, even flip the power switch a few times. I plug in the A/C still it
won't wake.

I'm either forced to wait for the battery to die or use the "hold power
switch until power down". Then vista would come up an ask to delete restore
data and start nomal. A few sidebar gadgets are already corrupted from the
hold power exercise.

Any way to fix this? I'm using the latest release Toshiba BIOS 3.20

Re: Tecra M4 Hibernate Problems

I believe there are a couple programs, the names of which I cannot remember
right this second, which can cause interference with Hibernation. However,
I would suggest you call Toshiba Support for an ear-to-ear run-through with
a tech person. Make sure you've got all the latest drivers Toshiba is
offering from their web site before you call, so you know you can speak of
absolutely "current" conditions with the tech.

Re: Tecra M4 Hibernate Problems

Thanks Chris, I took your advice and performed a clean install.

I finally found out that the problem is with VMWare Beta 6 Work station.
After it installs it prevents the system from hibernating or sleeping.

Re: Tecra M4 Hibernate Problems

LOL! Well, I'm sure the clean installation is better anyway. 8-) Thanks
for posting back with the culprit.

Thanks for the feedback!

IMHO one must not do *everything* (any experiments) on a TabletPC.
Trying to use "VM" is one of the things I would estimate to be tried
out on more stable hard- and software, IMHO.
