Hi,

I have a Compaq Tablet PC TC1000 with a Toshiba MK6022GAX 60 GB Hard
drive. Recently I started getting an error code 51 in event manager
(HDD has bad block)...Windows was crashing. I reformatted but still
same problem. Since Toshiba has no HDD utility I ran the Hitachi Drive
Fitness Test Utility which gave me a SMART ERROR.

I gave the Tablet to HP and they said that the drive is perfectly
alright. They tested it with their own utility. They told me they just
performed a low-level format. After I collected the PC I ran Hitachi
DFT utility again and got the same SMART error.

I thought maybe the utility is not compatible so I downloaded Active
Smart 2.5.1 from the net to check it out. The utility said there is
SMART error and the drive could die anytime.

My question is that are the Toshiba 60GB drives incompatible with all
other utilities other than their own or special HP utilities.....HP
didnt have to replace the HDD free of cost anyway because I was going
to have to pay for it. Warranty's over. They just took a small service
fee.

Could someone with a Toshiba MK6022GAX hard drive or a TC1000 with the
same drive run Active Smart and tell me if they get smart errors ? If
yes, then I can know that these utilities are incompatible with this
drive and the drive is OK and there is genuinely no problem.
