| Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Installation CD/DVD i work for a local government in the state of maryland. we have purchased a few tablet pcs from toshiba. so far, we love them. but the down side to purchasing pcs (in general) is that it comes with a million (sarcasm) programs preinstalled. whenever we purchase regular pcs, when automatically install our own OS images because of our work. fortunately for us, we can buy windows xp professional installation cds ... JUST the OS and nothing else. unfortunately, microsoft does not sell the tablet pc version of windows by itself. i guess i understand why ... drivers and stuff for the hardware. my question is: how would one go about creating a "Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Installation CD/DVD"? (i know for a fact it is possible) we have the recovery dvd of the tablet pc from toshiba, but we want to just install a super clean version of xp tablet edition. |

| Re: Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Installation CD/DV but with purchasing the tablet pcs, each tablet pc already has its own license. wouldnt i contact volume licensing if i wanted to install xp tablet editions on multi blank tablet pcs? i think what i am looking for is the directions/tutorials in how to create it myself. so when i do create this clean version of xp tablet with our settings, i could just use the license already belonging to the tablet pc, to "upgrade" the dirty version of xp tablet to the cleaner one. know what i mean? | Re: Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Installation CD/DV Yes, I understand exactly what you're saying. However, to get a "universal" image for all the Tablet PCs you need to apply a different image than that which is furnished by the OEM - one which is not specific to the Tablet itself or licensed to a single machine. You cannot change the image sent by Toshiba, in this case, because it belongs solely to each of the machines for which you have the individual PID label attached on the bottom of the computer. This is where the volume license would come in, and you would need to custom build the driver package, etc. Your Microsoft representative will be able to assist you. -- Chris H. | Re: Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Installation CD/DV (please dont take my responses as an insult/attitude towards what you are telling me, i just want to get a super clear answer) i also understand exactley what you are saying, but the tablet pcs we have are exactley all the same ... of course except for the serial number/product key for each individual tablet pc. so in essence, if i created a xp tablet edition installation cd/dvd, i could use it for the rest of the tablet pcs that we have. is there a way to create this but make it so each time i install it, it will ask me for the unique serial number/product key of the specific tablet pc? | Re: Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Installation CD/DV Me too. 8-) I would check with the OEM (Toshiba) to see what they say. They may be able to furnish you with an image which you could use on all machines. You may already be covered by one or more volume licensing agreements, but you could check this information: https://licensing.microsoft.com/eLic...33/Default.asp If you have a Microsoft representative, or can contact the person who makes arrangements for your licensing, they may be able to instantly clear up the situation for you. With the correct licensing, you'll have no issues. -- Chris H. | Re: Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Installation CD/DV "> is there a way to create this but make it so each time i > install it, it will ask me for the unique serial number/product key of the > specific tablet pc?" Hi Jacob, yes, you should check the informations in the support - tools folder of your OEM CD. There you find tools for deployment and unattended setup and creating different SIDs. Check MS support pages for sysprep etc. Following Technet link gives more ideas: http://search.microsoft.com/search/r...20PC%20Sysprep Expect deployment issues to be improved in Longhorn (making that easier is one of the targets of Longhorn - but it's many months away...) -- Mit besten Gruessen - Best wishes Stefen Niemeyer "jacobesterque******.com" <jacobesterqueyahoocom@discussions.microsoft.com > schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:033F7254-9E0F-447F-A734-D4C6747B743C@microsoft.com... > (please dont take my responses as an insult/attitude towards what you are > telling me, i just want to get a super clear answer) > > i also understand exactley what you are saying, but the tablet pcs we have > are exactley all the same ... of course except for the serial > number/product > key for each individual tablet pc. so in essence, if i created a xp > tablet > edition installation cd/dvd, i could use it for the rest of the tablet pcs > that we have. is there a way to create this but make it so each time i > install it, it will ask me for the unique serial number/product key of the > specific tablet pc? > > "Chris H." wrote: > >> Yes, I understand exactly what you're saying. | Re: Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Installation CD/DV I did something similar a year ago and it worked very well!!! It helped me a lot in a hard disk problem I had some months ago.
