| Tablet is setting pad lock on startup/shutdown I recently updated a users's Gateway Tablet, now when the user shuts down, or starts up, windows turns on the pad lock for the number keys. I upgraded to sp2 to try and fix, but no luck. Anyone know of anything like this, or should I be contacting Gateway about this particular issue? |

| Re: Tablet is setting pad lock on startup/shutdown Sounds like a setting in the BIOS, Nathan, but you may want to give Gateway support a call if it isn't there. -- Chris H. | Re: Tablet is setting pad lock on startup/shutdown Unfortunatley that's the first place I checked, but no dice. This is the second time I've seen this on these tablets, unfortunately the first time the Tablet was so inundated with spyware I just slicked it and started from scratch with sp2 already installed. Oh well, guess I'll have to call Gateway. Thanks for the help though. | Re: Tablet is setting pad lock on startup/shutdown Gateway support may have the reason the numlock is being activated or deactivated, and probably can give you the proper remedy by identifying one of their programs or hardware which is invoking the action. I'd sure be interested in what is causing it. -- Chris H. | Re: Tablet is setting pad lock on startup/shutdown Do you use remote desktop to log into the Tablet PC? Or an external keyboard? I believe Windows will remember the status of the numlock key if the BIOS does not override it. For example, if I connect to my Tablet PC using remote desktop and then disconnect the remote desktop session, the numlock state will be turned on. Come to think of it though, I can't remember if it will stay on between reboots. -- Josh Einstein Tablet Enhancements for Outlook 2.0 - Try it free for 14 days www.tabletoutlook.com "Nathan Weldon" <nweldon@usaarchitects.com> wrote in message news:%23cdicH8iFHA.2484@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... > Unfortunatley that's the first place I checked, but no dice. | Re: Tablet is setting pad lock on startup/shutdown Try one of the suggestions found by googling "numlock registry" to set the numlock value at start up, or use event viewer to check which application is changing it at startup. This entry above is "global" - you can do per user by doing the same thing at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard Hope this helps. -- John D [MVP - Tablet PC] |

| Re: Tablet is setting pad lock on startup/shutdown That one did it. Sure enough the key: HKEY_USERS\.default\control panel\keyboard InitialKeyboardIndicators was set to 2 instead of 0. Not sure why a security update would change this but I've certainly seen stranger things.
