| "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API." Hiberna I have a Windows XP Tablet with 2 GB of RAM. When I try to hibernate, I get the following message: "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API." Anyone know what I can do to solve this? |

And the link here to get the fix doesn't work, so I can't try it out to see if it would "regress" the files in question and get around the problem. Fortunately my tablet doesn't exhibit this (at the "low" end wtih only 1GB of RAM). But there are some others who are seeing this problem again now - check out http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/to...ation,resource Hopefully there will be a resolution soon. -- John D [MVP - Tablet PC] |

| Re: "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API." Hiberna Microsoft is tracking down what's wrong with the link in the KB article John posted, and I'll post as soon as I hear any information on it. I would suggest for the time being either close out your programs and shut down normally, or if you're on a/c power, just use Standby. -- Chris H. Please do a search for "insufficient system resources hibernate" in MSDN Managed Newsgroups. You will see that the issue is quite wide spread. It seems common with any PC with more than 1 GB of memory. The Kb 330909 is wrong in that it does not have anything to do with stressing the PC. It occurs even in idle situations. However, the problem only occurs after having used large memory consumers for a while, such as VMWare or Visual Studio 2005. It seems like you actually have to use the memory above 1 GB to get the effect. Please let someone in Microsoft focus on solving this issue, rather than solving the bad link in the KB. The KB is obsolete anyway as it is pre SP1. Thanks for your attention, Pieter |

| Re: "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API." Hib Q330909 Setup Error Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of the system installed is newer than the update you are applying to it. You can only install this update on a computer with no Service Packs installed. My points are: a) this service pack does not apply to XP SP2, but the problem is still present b) the SP says the problem occurs under high load, but it also occurs under no load at all c) the problem does not occur directly after booting. After having used the system for a while (less than 1 day) but with high load and high memory usage, this problem occurs always. d) according to the posts on various forums, it occurs with many people. Probably everyone with more than 1 GB of memory who is actually using it and using hibernate. The KB also talks about physical RAM fragmentation. Is there any way to solve this or to cure this before hibernating? Thanks for your attention. Pieter |

| Re: "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API." Hib Pieter, I'm communicating with Microsoft on this one. Last I heard was they were forwarding the issue to someone specific who has knowledge of it. That was Tuesday, and I haven't heard anything back yet. For what it is worth, I'm running 1 gig of RAM on this particular machine, and haven't had the problem. -- Chris H. | Re: "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API." Hib I must correct my summary. Other users have reported that hibernate worked well with 1GB, and they got the here mentioned problem after upgrading to 2 GB internal memory. I don't work for Microsoft, Pieter, however if you'd put in a good word with my wife, it would be appreciated. | Re: "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API." Hib Chris, offcourse I'd be prepared to give as much good words to your wife as you would like, if not more, but unfortunately that is not to be recommended - in view of the current hibernate problems with large memory that is. | Re: "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API." Hib Any updates on this? I'm experiencing the same problem as it seems EVERYONE else is. Why Microsoft seems to basically deny this problem (post SP2) is beyond me -- since they have a KB article on it and a simple Google search shows that this problem is everywhere. Thanks :) |

| Re: "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API." Hib No updates yet, Eric. Microsoft is not denying the issue, they're working on it. However, it is a Windows XP operating system issue, and it is a huge project to pinpoint first of all, then correct without breaking something else. I'll post when I hear anything at all. If you absolutely must use Hibernation, I would suggest you drop your RAM down to a gig so you don't have the error. If you must run more than a gig of RAM for some reason, you can use alternatives like Standby or just plain shutting down the machine. -- Chris H.
