| Acer C100 memory upgrade I know this isn't the right place for such a question but I wouldn't know where else. Some two years ago I bought myself an Acer Travelmate C102Tci. After installing office 2003 a month ago and using the tablet more frequently I'm more and more annoyed by it's slowness. I have currently 2x128mb. Which is the maximum according to the documentation. Has anybody tried to add more memory? What could go wrong? Trial an error is not really an option as such memory costs about 150€/$ pp. It's a long shot but maybe indeed somebody was brave enough to try it out. Thanks Bart |

| RE: Acer C100 memory upgrade Hello Bart, I also have a C102 model. My understanding is that the processor itself will recognize no more than 256 MB. There have been discussions on this board about it, which is how I learned of it. Since it is the processor, it seems as though there would be no bios update that could fix it either. I would say, though, the only thing that could go wrong is someone paid to put 512 MB in, it it still only saw 256 MB. I use Office 2003, and normally I shut down daily, but I had noticed some issues when I would just let it sleep instead. The memory leak hot fix seems to have cleared that up, as I have not noticed anymore slow downs. | Re: Acer C100 memory upgrade If the C102 only supports a maximum 256 MB, that's your limit, unfortunately. I couldn't find the maximum RAM for your unit on the Acer web site, but you might call their tech support and ask them. -- Chris H. | Re: Acer C100 memory upgrade Early Acer Models, including the 102, 104, both T and Ti models are listed as 256Mb max. That was the big drawback for the first generation Acers. -- Terri Stratton Editor / Owner http://thetabletpc.net http://themediacenterpc.net Microsoft Featured Communities Microsoft Windows MVP - Tablet PC "BartDesc" <BartDesc@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:41BBC73D-92CB-4D6D-B195-660A4AFAE61E@microsoft.com... >I know this isn't the right place for such a question but I wouldn't know > where else. > Some two years ago I bought myself an Acer Travelmate C102Tci. > After installing office 2003 a month ago and using the tablet more > frequently I'm more and more annoyed by it's slowness. > I have currently 2x128mb. | RE: Acer C100 memory upgrade Well, this is what I've learned in the meantime: the limit is imposed by the Intel 440MX chipset. (although skimming the internet shows you some portables with the same chipset but higher than 256MB memory: or is that the manufacturers pulling my leg?) So stubern as I am: can this chipset be replaced? upgraded? For now its just about oke, I can live with it. But what within a year? Thanks for any info Bart "BartDesc" wrote: > I know this isn't the right place for such a question but I wouldn't know > where else. > Some two years ago I bought myself an Acer Travelmate C102Tci. > After installing office 2003 a month ago and using the tablet more > frequently I'm more and more annoyed by it's slowness. > I have currently 2x128mb. | Re: Acer C100 memory upgrade Chipset can only be replaced by obtaining a new motherboard. Than you probably will have to replace your CPU too. Personally I wouldn't advise that. The whole process is costly and you will end up with only a slight increase þn your machine's comptuting power. Better to buy a new tablet or wait a year or so if you're short on money. Meanwhile, upgrade your RAM to 256 of course. | Re: Acer C100 memory upgrade Sorry about the late reply. But I would strongly advise that you save up for a Acer C110 if cost is an issue. They can be had for around $1500 new and around $750 used on ebay. A great Tablet PC and a worthwhile upgrade.
