5 weeks of Tablet use

Hi. I am new here, I read the group whilst making a decision about
which tablet to get. I just wanted to post my thoughts and experiences
after 4/5 weeks of use.

I decided on the HP TC1100. I considered the 4200 but not many places
are selling that in the Uk. In hindsight, I an very glad that I went
for the 1100.

I use the machine for meetings, note taking, surfing the net and also
..Net development.

For the first couple of weeks I used the tablet like a laptop, I used
the keyboard and was quite happy. Then I started playing with it in
slate mode with the keyboard detached. Slate mode is fantastic for
meetings, notetaking, reviewing document, gathering requirements etc.
There is a great UMLtool called TabletUML that is a Joy to use.

For development slate mode is not really any use, but I never really
expected it to be. That is then the keyboard is really useful.

I am completely sold on the tablet and I think it is the way forward.
An interesting side effect of having the tablet at a client site is
that I have ended up giving demos to several managers, all as them have
realised how useful a tablet would be in their jobs. No one has not
been interested. It seems that the price is the sticking point. One
person has already bought a tablet and I think that in the next 2
months there will probably be 4-5 more in the office. It really does
seem that a lower price and more exposure is the key to success.

Neil

I found for development, an external keyboard and monitor make a real
difference. VS.net is not so great on a 1024x768 screen.
