wanted - operational tablet pen input panel on a desktop pc.

I want to have an pen input panel to use with ms visio 2003 which has
inking capability. I can currently write ink objects and convert to
text on demand. I'd like to be able to add text to generic objects. I
can do this with my toshiba tablet pc and visio 2003 using the pen
input panel and writing into the panel when the object has been
selected and put into edit text mode. I'd like to be able to do this on
my desktop. Any clues on how I can do this ? I can't find a desktop pen
input panel anywhere.

I have installed on my win2000 desktop :
win 2000 service pack4
.net framework 1.1 service pack 1
.net framework 1.1 package
ms win xp tablet pc edition development kit v1.7
ms win xp tablet pc edition 2005 recognizer pack.
wacom intuos3 9x12 tablet digitizer

Thanks in advance,

You may want to look at the offerings at www.wacom.com where they have the
writing pads. The Ink isn't the same as on a Tablet PC with the digital
recognizers, but their pads are varied and cover quite a spectrum of
versatility.

thanks Chris,

My Wacom support contact person thinks writing pad is an ms office
product. I have seen references to it at microsofts web site but I cant
find a download of it.

Not that I know of, Art. At least by that name. The problem with
attempting to use a writing tablet (not to confuse them with Tablet PCs) as
shown here: http://www.wacom.com/productinfo/index.cfm Is not all programs
available on computers recognize the input as handwriting, but treats it as
a large graphic.

While this isn't really a Tablet PC subject as supported in this newsgroup,
I know a lot of developers/programmers created Tablet PC applications using
that hardware (along with the expensive digital monitors) before the first
prototype Tablet PCs were available.

You might also want to nose around the
microsoft.public.windows.tabletpc.developer newsgroup and check the
information at http://www.gotdotnet.com/team/tabletpc/ where developing for
Tablet PCs is headquartered.

Well, the last sentence in the first paragraph is supposed to be less
fractured. 8-) Not all programs on computers honor handwriting as anything
other than a graphic. Sorry. 8-)
