tcserver.exe crashes and freezes up my complete system

Hi all,

I've got strange tcserver.exe crashes that sometimes freeze up my whole os.
Sometimes I get errors like tcserver.exe crashed because memory at some hex
address could not be "written", sometimes the system just freezes up
completely. If the latter happens, I'm most of the time unable to do
anything but restart the system. All running apps seem to hang. Sometimes I
can manage it and kill tcserver.exe and everything is back to normal.

My tcserver.exe is version 1.7.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158). Any
hints that lead to solve this are highly appreciated ;-)...

Thanks,
Juerg

If you are doing a lot of Ink work without restarting the system, that could
be the known memory leak which Microsoft is closing in on a fix for at this
time. How often do you restart your system (shutdown complete/start cold or
restart)?

Hi Chris,

I'm aware of the memory leak problem - this, however, seems to be something
completely different. It's happening with zero ink work as well. Maybe some
incompatibility of tcserver.exe with some other software. Has anybody had
similar problems yet?

Re: tcserver.exe crashes and freezes up my complete system

Even without use of the pen, the tcserver.exe will continue to build its own
"share" and eventually can cause issues. I would update your system as I
posted Tuesday:
=====
Microsoft has released the fix for the tcserver.exe memory leak.

Information in the form of a Knowledge Base article is posted here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...B;EN-US;895953

The download and additional information is available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I recommend downloading and installing ASAP. Make sure no programs are
running in the background, including any anti-virus software or third party
software firewall (leave the Windows Firewall running), when you install.
Then reboot your system to finalize the installation.

Chris,

I just did that, thank you. Let's see if this has any positive effects
regarding my problem. If not, I'll post again.

Thanks again,
Juerg

Good deal. You may have solved the issue! Here's hoping, anyway.
