| Corrections to recognized text? I was going through the Windows tutorial and came to the part about correcting recognized text and then clicking "Add to Dictionary" to make it more likely that the program would correctly recognize the word in the future. Nifty. But I never see that. I went to the Tablet PC Input Panel Help and looked up subjects under the heading "Dictionary". Under "Correct handwriting recognition errors before you insert text", it says "1. Tap the recognized text that you want to correct." and then you can add the corrected word to the dictionary. But the "recognized text" it is talking about are in little boxes with the recognized words that appear on the writing pad AS you write. I never see those boxes. All I see are my own letters, then I can press INSERT to put them into the page I am working on. But on the tutorial, if you write, say, "Brown fox", the recognized, printed text "Brown fox" (or whatever it thinks you wrote), appears just below your writing in little boxes, as you write. Apparently, it is tapping THEM that brings up the "correction area". How do you get those little boxes with recognized words to appear? mack austin |

| Re: Corrections to recognized text? Austin The TIP includes the Writing Pad, Character Pad, On-Screen Keyboard. In order to get the Correction Interface, use the Writing Pad to enter your ink. If different type of Correction Interface is available when using the Character Pad. See "Using the writing pad for western languages" in the Help Section. | Re: Corrections to recognized text? I use the writing pad, most of the time. Just to be clear, I am talking about the top choice on the left in the TIP, with which I can write freehand, not character by character (middle choice) or using a keyboard (bottom choice). What I am saying is that when I use the writing pad, little printed words do not appear in boxes below what I am writing. So, it appears to me that I am not getting the "Correction Interface". Is there some place where I switch that on and off? I will check out that subject in "Help", as you suggest. mack austin "Fritz Switzer" <fritz.switzer@abletfactory.com> wrote in message news:%23n0W7TnfFHA.3164@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... > Austin > > The TIP includes the Writing Pad, Character Pad, On-Screen Keyboard. > > In order to get the Correction Interface, use the Writing Pad to enter > your ink. | Re: Corrections to recognized text? You will get the words, as Fritz says, if you go into Options in the Tablet Input Panel and remove the check mark from the "auto insert." You will need to tap the Insert button when you're through writing, but the TIP will automatically expand depending on your originating position (Undock) as long as there is screen space. -- Chris H. | Re: Corrections to recognized text? Thanks, Fritz and Chris, that did the trick! But how would anyone possibly ever connect that particular check-box to enabling these text insertions? Seems bizarre! Here is something else but related. Lets say I insert text that still needs correction. According to TIP Help, I select the text I want to change, tap the floating TIP and it will come up with a correction box with text letters, "add to dictionary", etc. Well, this happens for me in Wordpad but not in Outlook Express. Does it just not work in some programs? I did get it to recognize the name "gary". Once, when I somehow did get a correction box, I added it to the dictionary. mack austin "Chris H." <winxpnews********.com> wrote in message news:%23J7LJtqfFHA.1284@TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... > You will get the words, as Fritz says, if you go into Options in the > Tablet Input Panel and remove the check mark from the "auto insert." I also like using the writing pad a lot more now that I have the correctable text appearing as I write. The handwriting recognition is getting quite good. | Re: Corrections to recognized text? It does often seem that way. We're the ones who learn as we adjust our writing slightly to compensate for letters most often misunderstood.
