| Tablet PC Screen not working on Toshiba Satellite R10 Ok, I'm assuming this problem is actually associated with how my drivers load on my Toshiba Convertable. When I first got my Tablet PC I loaded TweakUI on it and set it up so that it would auto-login. There are a number of issues witht he login screens on the Tablet PC (like the screen orientation, etc.) so I decided to bypass it alltogether. Still everythign worked fine and the tablet pen & screen worked like a charm. Two weeks later, I added an logitech wireless mouse and installed the wireless mouse driver and mouseware. All of a sudden my Tablet Screen would not respond. I uninstalled mouseware and had the same problem. In diagnosing the problem, I found that if I turned auto-login off and signed in normally, the tablet screen would work without error. I even tried running bootvis which I was hoping would re-arrange the loading of these drivers. It was a long shot I know, but it worked!! - For one reboot. After that everything was back to normal. Can anyone tell me how to fix this issue? Thanks! |

| Re: Tablet PC Screen not working on Toshiba Satellite R10 Do you have a Restore Point from System Restore going back to before you originally install the TweakUI? If so, revert to it and see how it does. Contrary to misguided opinions, BootVis will not improve performance in Windows XP. It is a tool for system designers to identify performance issues. See http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system...t/bootvis.mspx If you don't have a Restore Point, I would suggest you take a look in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer (check by Application and System in the left pane) for listings of yellow triangles with black exclamation points or red circles with white X's in them. Those are errors which may be right-clicked with a select of Properties to see a portion of the error message. Using that information, you may be able to isolate a driver or program which is causing the issue. -- Chris H. | Re: Tablet PC Screen not working on Toshiba Satellite R10 I tried using a restore point. The restore was successful, but I still had the issue. The restore point, nearest I could tell, simply restores the drivers and libraries to thier previous state. I know these libraries work (and work just fine if I manually log in), but I think thier getting munched somehow. As for the event viewer, that what confused both myself and Toshiba.. No events relating to this issue show up in the event viewer. Just a couple about W32Time (time server synchronization) because I wasn't on a network at the time and some others relating to my Domain Controller and dhcp. | Re: Tablet PC Screen not working on Toshiba Satellite R10 Okay, sorry. 8-) I almost have to laugh sometimes because of the pickles we get ourselves in and then it is something like the graphics driver - seemingly unrelated - goofing up. I almost suspect hardware like perhaps the digitizer, and not any software changes, creating this problem. But could we pin down exactly your situation, and then try some things once we're on the same wavelength? So to recap: You are running Windows XP SP2 and the Tablet PC Edition 2005, correct? You have no pen functionality at all, is that correct? No reaction when you attempt to launch the Tablet Input Panel from the Taskbar? Yet you do have cursor use with a mouse? Or from the Touchpad? I know this may sound crazy, but some of these problems with no rhyme or reason "self-fix" if you turn off the system, remove the external power connection and then remove the battery. Leave everything disconnect - no power at all - for about 30 minutes. Then insert the battery, reconnect the external power pack and start the machine. -- Chris H. | Re: Tablet PC Screen not working on Toshiba Satellite R10 :) Yes, I'm beginning to see the problem.. I'll respond inside. Or from the Touchpad? If I use auto-login this is correct. I see the input panel, the external mouse and touchpad work fine, and I even see the tablet configuration icon in the system tray. I simply can't use the pen because it doesn't work when brought to the display. If I log in manually and do not use auto-login, everything INCLUDING the pen works perfectly fine. > I know this may sound crazy, but some of these problems with no rhyme or > reason "self-fix" if you turn off the system, remove the external power > connection and then remove the battery. It does sound crazy, but hey at this point I'll try anything. I'll let you know of the results but because the drivers DO work when I log in manually, I'm thinking it's unlikely its a hardware issue. |

| Re: Tablet PC Screen not working on Toshiba Satellite R10 Okay, good. Now we know where we are. | Re: Tablet PC Screen not working on Toshiba Satellite R10 :) Yah, neither has MSDN, Microsoft.com, or Toshiba. I got this problem right after installing Logitech Mouseware and the driver for a Logitech wireless mouse. Before that everything was working fine. I've since removed mouseware AND the Logitech driver, I've done system restores, etc. Using bootvis was simply an attempt to change the loading of the drivers so that (if it was an issue of the order that the drivers load), maybe bootvis would fix it. It did for one reboot after bootvis, but then came back. This is my one remaining problem with, what I consider, an excellent platform. But in my opinion, the login system is completly annoying on a tablet and the inability to bypass it is a HUGE problem. I mean I'm tired of looking at a loging screen sideways on my monitor simply because my convertable was in tablet mode when I shut it down. Grrrr. Anyone else have ideas? |

| Re: Tablet PC Screen not working on Toshiba Satellite R10 You can automatically logon without using a password in the User Account setup, otherwise if you want security when you're out and about, I would use it. Are you using "the" Administrator account, or one you've created for yourself as part of the Admin group? If the former, I would create a second account, using "the" Admin account for a safety net. One of the other things you may want to check, once you've done the User Account checking, is take a look in Administrative Tools/Services, and if you're the only user kill off Fast User Switching. There is no need for it, unless you've got multiple users. -- Chris H. | Re: Tablet PC Screen not working on Toshiba Satellite R10 I'm using it in conjunction with a windows domain. This is a domain user I'm logging in as. It is a user who is in the Admin group on the laptop. I have also tried to auto-login to the administrator as well (both the domain and the local administrator) and have the same issue. As for fast user switching, I believe I already have that turned off, but I'll check. Either way, I doubt it will impact my pen issue. | Re: Tablet PC Screen not working on Toshiba Satellite R10 OK, some basic things. First, let's get back to where we might want to be and then try building up to where we have minimal annoyance, IF we can. The first step in that is to toss the mouseware. You don't need it, and it will get in the way of other things. And, for the moment, let's also remove TweakUI. We'll come back to it. Personally, here, I'd really like it if we could go back as far as possible with system restore. Not sure how far back you can go, however, but go as far back as you can. Now, if the Logitech mouseware still shows in add/remove, then remove it. Same for TweakUI. Good. Reboot. It probably doesn't work right yet, but we'll get there. Now, go to the Toshiba site, and download the latest BIOS and the basic Toshiba utilities we want to re-install. These include the Toshiba Common Modules, Display driver, Rotation Utility, Zooming Utility, Mobile Extension, and touchpad driver. Now, go to the Wacom site, and download the latest Tablet PC Wacom driver (Chris, what version is it we need?). Stick all that stuff locally on your HD, and expand it out as required. good. Remove the external wireless mouse if it's still there. Reboot. Good. Now, reload all the toshiba stuff, starting with common modules. Other than that, I don't think there's a required order. Try to not reboot any more than you have to, just cause it's annoying. But I figure at least a couple will be required, though I've stacked them up pretty well in the past. Fine. Now, install the Wacom driver. Reboot. Hopefully, we are now working, though not auto logging in, obviously. If not, you're going to need to rebuild from the distribution media, so hopefully we're still OK. Set a system restore point. This is our fall back point. Attach the Logitech mouse. Do NOT INSTALL THE MOUSEWARE. Sorry, no way I'd load that stuff on a Tablet. And the mouse doesn't need it to work. reboot. OK so far? good. Now load TweakUI. Well, either it worked, or it didn't. If it didn't, fall back to the restore point, and try swapping the order between the mouse and the TweakUI. If it still has problems, try uninstalling and re-installing the Wacom driver. -- Charlie. | Re: Tablet PC Screen not working on Toshiba Satellite R10 Thanks for answering the bell, Charlie. The Wacom driver 4.82-9a is needed from here: http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/driver.cfm (I'm having shoulder problems from rotator cuff surgery and couple weeks ago. Sort of over-did the physical therapy today and had to resort to pain pills again.) Ding, ding! 8-) -- Chris H.
