Motion1300 won't stand by or hibernate by trigger button

From the dashboard, the Motion says it can't go into standby, and in power
management I can't get the power trigger hibernate function to work. I am
running SP 1. Any thoughts?

Chris

Does it function okay from Turn Off Computer? Did it function properly
"yesterday," and if so have you installed any programs or removed any
programs?

Re: Motion1300 won't stand by or hibernate by trigger button

From turn off computer stand by is not selectable. The only thing I
installed was drivers for my Wacom pen. Hmm? I haven't used hibernate in
months and I got the pen somewhere around that time.

Re: Motion1300 won't stand by or hibernate by trigger button

Would you check your settings in Control Panel/Power Options? Here's how
from Help and Support:
=====
To manually put your computer on standby
Open Power Options in Control Panel.
- On the Advanced tab, under When I press the power button on my computer,
click Standby. If you are using a portable computer, click Standby under
When I close the lid of my portable computer.
Click OK or Apply, and then turn off the power or close the lid of your
portable computer.
- Notes -
- To open Power Options, click Start, click Control Panel, and then
double-click Power Options.
- You can also put your computer on standby by clicking Start and then
clicking Shut Down. In the What do you want the computer to do drop-down
list, click Stand by.
- You might want to save your work before putting your computer on standby.
While the computer is on standby, information in computer memory is not
saved on your hard disk. If there is an interruption in power, information
in memory is lost.
- To put your computer on standby, you must have a computer that is set up
by the manufacturer to support this option.
- Using Power Options in Control Panel, you can adjust any power management
option that your computer's unique hardware configuration supports. Because
these options may vary widely from computer to computer, the options
described may differ from what you see. Power Options automatically detects
what is available on your computer and shows you only the options that you
can control.

Re: Motion1300 won't stand by or hibernate by trigger button

I can make the change under the Advanced tab, but upon confirming and
closing that window the change doesn't take effect, it just goes back to the
default. Standby is grayed out under the turn off computer.

Can you try changing it for a five-minute timed setting and see if it will
work with that?

Re: Motion1300 won't stand by or hibernate by trigger button

That just made the screen go black. However I discovered that if I set the
power button to "ask me what to do" a flick of the trigger brings up the
close dialog window, with no option for standby.

Re: Motion1300 won't stand by or hibernate by trigger button

Darn, should have gone to Motion's online support first. So try this:
=====
In the Motion M-Series Tablet PC's default configuration, Standby mode is
disabled. A quick slide of the power switch while the Tablet PC is running
puts the Motion M-Series Tablet PC into Hibernation.
To enable Standby mode, so that the Tablet PC can enter Standby rather than
Hibernate when the power switch is pressed, do the following:

- Open the Motion Dashboard by pressing Hot Key #1.
- Under [Power Management], tap [Properties].
- Tap the [Advanced] tab.
- Under [When I press the power button on my computer], tap the down arrow
to open the drop-down list.
- Select [Stand by].
- Tap [OK].
=====

If that doesn't work for you, I would contact Motion's support section via
their toll-free number.

Standby is not an option under advanced. Thank you so much for your time and
suggestions! Will give Motion a call.

Re: Motion1300 won't stand by or hibernate by trigger button

Something else may be going on then. Are you running the BIOS update on the
machine? You might check that so you have the information to give tech
support. Good like with it. If they can resolve it, I'd be appreciative if
you could post back with the solution so we could all learn.
