| Re: tablet - tc1100 slooow When was the last time you thoroughly checked your system with your anti-virus software running updated definitions? When was the last time you checked your drivers, and made sure you've got the latest ones from the OEM installed? When was the last time you checked your system for malware/spyware/Trojans and the like? In addition to Chris's suggestions, maybe remove all unnecessary clutter from the HD and uninstall unused programs, then defragment the HD. In addition if you have a look at Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Event Viewer, Applications or System log messages, you /might/ find some indications if something specific is wrong with your system (e.g. lot's of Error entries). If everything appears to be ok, then: to get a massive improvement in "booting" time you could also enable hibernation in the Control Panel / Power options (or Energy options). In the same options, on the Advanced panel, you can change the power button to make the tablet go into hibernation instead of shutting down. If you leave the "ask for password after resuming" unchecked, start-up is even faster, although not requiring a password might pose a security risk (how severe depends on how you use the tablet). With 1 gig of RAM on my desktop, resuming from hibernation takes about 10 seconds. Similar times on my tablet pc - though I can't check right now, it's in repair, *sigh*... In any case, resuming from hibernation is /definitely/ faster than booting. regards, - Jan |

| Re: tablet - tc1100 slooow Standby is even faster - under 3 seconds here - and saves not having to write to the hard drive like Hibernation does. Of course, the draw-back with Standby is you're on battery usage because it is saving the "current" position in memory instead of writing everything to a file and then shutting off all power. -- Chris H. Here on my TC1100 I have 30 seconds to usable desktop (ie, with the wireless running and everything) from hibernate and on average about 7-8 seconds to a usable desktop from standby (although this varies a lot). -- Woody http://www.alienrat.com/games |
