| TabletPC development desktop Hi -- I'm having trouble setting up a desktop PC (actual, a big honkin' workstation) with Tablet PC 2005. The machine already had Windows XP Service Pack 1 on it. I downloaded Tablet PC 2005 (both discs) from MSDN Universal, and installed it as an "upgrade" being careful to use the correct license key. Note that this PC has a Wacom tablet attached. Now the machine is up and running, and has Journal, the soft keyboard, handwriting recognition, etc. working -- all the same features that I have on my Fujitsu T4010. So far so good. However, Windows doesn't quite accept that it's a Tablet PC. In particular, I can't install anything, like the Experience Pack, without an error message that says that this isn't a Tablet PC. Is my problem that I started from a Window XP "desktop" version, and I should completely start again? I hate to do so, since I have all my developer tools already installed on this machine. Please advise, and thanks! |

| Re: TabletPC development desktop Alan, I've got basically the same set-up with the same behavior. You can test it using the GetSystemMetric. It should return an 86 I believe for a "true" tablet, else if will fail the test. Some programs, mine inlcuded use this as a check for a tablet. Our MSDN setups won't pass this test, I believe. A code snippet is available in the Developers FAQ at my website. Hope this helps, Fritz -- Fritz Switzer Microsoft MVP Tablet PC www.abletfactory.com "Alan" <Alan@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1064DD24-E7D1-4238-A92F-7E96D3029938@microsoft.com... > Hi -- I'm having trouble setting up a desktop PC (actual, a big honkin' > workstation) with Tablet PC 2005. | Re: TabletPC development desktop Alan, you should post your questions to the microsoft.public.windows.tabletpc.developer newsgroup where they deal with dev/programming situations like this all the time. I know what you want to do can be done, since all the original Tablet PC superset was created on desktops, and believe you need to have the Tablet SDK installed. The other newsgroup is a wonderful resource and they'll jump in and be very helpful. | Re: TabletPC development desktop Thanks, Fritz -- I wonder if that GetSystemMetric is set during the initial WinXP install. I'm tempted to try a clean install... -A "Fritz Switzer" wrote: > Alan, > > I've got basically the same set-up with the same behavior. > > You can test it using the GetSystemMetric.
