| Compaq TC1000- Reboot on Screen rotation while keyboard mounted Hello- My tablet is the Compaq TC1000. There are two problems that I am encountering: 1. When the tablet/screen is rotated on the keyboard 180 degrees, then rotated back to normal position, the PC will restart instead of remaining on. I have reloaded the Mode Service a couple of times. I have removed recent programs in hopes of fixing this. What can I do to fix this? 2. The lower left and center back of the tablet becomes very hot when running either on battery or when plugged in. I have contacted HP support and they are sending a new keyboard to me. However, I am still thinking that a software control is causing problem 1. Please advise. Thanks! Rob Huston |

| RE: Compaq TC1000- Reboot on Screen rotation while keyboard mounted HP claims that they never heard of this. Support at HP had me install battery mgt patches and a BIOS update that did not work. Does anyone familiar with Windows XP Tablet edition know of any settings or modifications that can be set for what happens when the Tablet is rotated on the keyboard swivel? Chris H- any guess? | Re: Compaq TC1000- Reboot on Screen rotation while keyboard mounted Usually, Rob, if there's something like that going on there is a hardware issue which we can't resolve. There might be a loose connection, and attempting to open the case might invalidate your warranty. I would tell them the behavior is unacceptable, and send the unit back for their repair techs to examine and fix. -- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...ts/nichol.mspx In memory of a true friend, Windows MVP Alex Nichol Chris H. | Re: Compaq TC1000- Reboot on Screen rotation while keyboard mounte Anyone could have given this answer.... if you knew TC1000 you'd know that the keyboard is not part of a case or can be opened easily. | Re: Compaq TC1000- Reboot on Screen rotation while keyboard mounte No, no, no. The reboot/restart happens when the tablet it spun around on the keyboard swivel base.... The keyboard functions fine... It is the event when the tablet is spun back around to the "laptop" position.. HP is sending the keyboard as last resort. | Re: Compaq TC1000- Reboot on Screen rotation while keyboard mounte Hi, Can you right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties". On the Advanced tab click the button under "Startup and Recovery settings". Uncheck the box "automatically restart" under the "system failure" heading. Now repeat the operation you were performing before that caused a restart. You may get a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). Please post the information you see on the screen when that happens. | RE: Compaq TC1000- Reboot on Screen rotation while keyboard mounted In article <936EF598-95CC-427A-85AD-B330232BD292@microsoft.com>, RobH@discussions.microsoft.com says... > HP claims that they never heard of this. There are a whole series of options, but none of them are particularly human readable. They are all read by the process cpqmcsrv.exe Where it comes to changing the screen, it reads the nvidia docked profile settings and selects the one that you have just gone to. Then it makes just over 2500 registry calls to specific controls before handing control over to wisptis.exe. If you have a software problem in there it is more likely to be graphics rather than anything else, but I would personally not be suprised if it wasn't related to the hardware in the keyboard. What happens when you press the rotate button manually (as that performs the same steps as the keyboard doing it) -- Woody http://www.alienrat.com/games |

| Re: Compaq TC1000- Reboot on Screen rotation while keyboard mounte If there is no blue screen, then this is something that Windows isn't aware of or can't capture (for example, the power is suddenly cut). If there is nothing logged in the Windows Event Log (Bugcheck codes are logged there as well), then I think you definately have a hardware fault, and need to contact HP about it.
