IBM Tablet PC?

My wife is a teacher at a private school. She swears that she has been
told that she will be given an IBM Tablet PC this summer for use next
year. Anybody know anything about a pending release of a IBM Tablet PC,
even the most unsubstantiated of rumors?

By the way, all of the students are required to buy an IBM X40.

Re: IBM Tablet PC?

Fingers crossed, Frank. Neither IBM nor Microsoft have made any
announcement, so perhaps your information is the first. I would imagine if
any announcements are eminent, they may be being withheld until the WinHEC
(Windows Hardware Engineering Conference) to be held April 25-27 in Seattle.

It's funny (highly improbable) that the first news would have come from
my wife's school.

Re: IBM Tablet PC?

That's sometimes how information starts rolling out, though, Frank. We'll
wait and see, but I believe WinHEC will probably be full of announcements
this year.

Re: IBM Tablet PC?

Until either IBM or Microsoft make an announcement, no "details" are
official, Frank. It would be very good to see IBM in the Tablet PC realm, I
know that for sure. Otherwise, unless one or the other company says
something officially, we're all just speculating. 8-)

Chances are slim to none that you'll see an IBM branded tablet. You may
however see a Lenovo branded one.

Apparently, the sound was, "uh oh".

Are you saying you know there won't be an IBM Tablet PC, Paul? What is the
source of your information? (Let is enjoy at least a glimmer before you
shoot it down.) 8-)

IBM no longer develops laptops/portables at all.

Are you even aware of who or what Lenovo is? Did you make any effort to
research this before posting your smartassed response?

Re: IBM Tablet PC?

Really. They are certainly spending money advertising their latest
Thinkpads. If you mean IBM doesn't personally produce them, who the heck
does build their own stuff anymore. If it has an IBM logo on it, it's an
IBM.

Re: IBM Tablet PC?

Excuse me, Paul. Sorry I even answered you, if it invokes such a negative
response.

I was inquiring if you had some information for us.

Re: IBM Tablet PC?

I think the reference was to the fact that IBM sold its laptop business to
Lenovo. I'd imagine that means that all new "IBM" laptops will now
officially be Lenovo laptops. Presumably this will also be the situation
for any TabletPC products, but sometimes one gets surprised.
