| "Ruby" Prototype Kind of cool looking: http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/news_9485.html -- Paul Adare MVP - Windows - Virtual Machine http://www.identit.ca/blogs/paul/ Scientists were excited this week at having isolated a brief sound which occurred immediately before the Big Bang. Apparently, the sound was, "uh oh". |

| Re: "Ruby" Prototype Too bad. At least the form factor isn't bad. Without a digitizer, the handwriting experience compared to a Tablet PC might as well be using an analog mouse for input. 8-) -- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...ts/nichol.mspx In memory of a true friend, Windows MVP Alex Nichol Chris H. | Re: "Ruby" Prototype In article <#9ew0giQFHA.3156@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl>, in the microsoft.public.windows.tabletpc news group, Jim Pickering <jimp@mvps.0rg> says... > Runs a Pentium M ULV 600 processor Right, this is stated in the article I linked to. > and a touch screen, no digitizer. Actually, the article states that is does not have a touch screen and the picture shows what appears to be a standard tablet pen. You can even see the button on the pen in the picture. My guess is that the author doesn't really understand how a tablet works and was expecting a touch screen. > Save > your money unless you really, really need small form. > This is simply a prototype. -- Paul Adare MVP - Windows - Virtual Machine http://www.identit.ca/blogs/paul/ Scientists were excited this week at having isolated a brief sound which occurred immediately before the Big Bang. | Re: "Ruby" Prototype Not to contradict, but the aritcle states "it still packs a Pentium M ULV 600 and Wacom just like on a TabletPC. The screen is not touch-sensitive though" Maybe yes the author doesnt understand how tablet pcs work.. or maybe just stating that as a good thing.. (Its how i read it.. more on the lines of "its not a touch sensistive though! *smile*") But I could be wrong. I think it looks neat, but why with the size!! -James "Paul Adare" <padare@newsguy.com> wrote in message news:MPG.1cca8acf6e0308e5989cf7@msnews.microsoft.c om... > In article <#9ew0giQFHA.3156@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl>, in the > microsoft.public.windows.tabletpc news group, Jim Pickering > <jimp@mvps.0rg> says... > >> Runs a Pentium M ULV 600 processor > > Right, this is stated in the article I linked to. > >> and a touch screen, no digitizer. > > Actually, the article states that is does not have a touch screen and > the picture shows what appears to be a standard tablet pen. Do you know the difference between a touch sensitive screen and a digitizer? You haven't "contradicted" anything, what you've posted doesn't make any sense at all. -- Paul Adare MVP - Windows - Virtual Machine http://www.identit.ca/blogs/paul/ Scientists were excited this week at having isolated a brief sound which occurred immediately before the Big Bang. | It's important to remember this is just a prototype so might never make the light of day. I have a few observations about this form factor, since I have been using a Sony U for a good while. I think the Ruby screen is about 5" which is the size of the screen on the Sony. I've also compared the Ruby screen desktop with different resolutions on the Sony and it appears to be 480x640 which is very small. Inking must be comfortable for a sustained session and narrow screens make that very difficult to do. This prototype also has a very anemic processor and only 128 MB of memory which will not run WinXP, let alone the Tablet extensions very well. I don't know anyone who's happy with any WinXP machine with 128 MB of RAM. I am a big supporter of mini-Tablets but I think they need to be a bit bigger than this one to be practical.

| Re: "Ruby" Prototype Since most of the information about the Ruby platform is only available in the Japanese language, and since device this is only a prototype and will not be available for at least 2 years, according to all info (in English) that I could find, I think it's much too early for anyone to make absolute pronouncements as to what it does or does not have. All articles I've seen state it does not have a digitizer. If Paul, or anyone else, can find info to the contrary, I'd be happy to look at it. | Re: "Ruby" Prototype yes actually I do. But it was posted that the artical said that it had a touch sensitive screen, but you can see the tablet style pen... when it clearly says non-touch sensitive screen. Wacom Tablet Style screen. I was just saying it didnt sound like the author was dissapointed by the digitizer. But he may have been. -James "Paul Adare" <padare@newsguy.com> wrote in message news:MPG.1ccac10cd434efae989cf9@msnews.microsoft.c om... > In article <uZkiaLnQFHA.4028@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl>, in the > microsoft.public.windows.tabletpc news group, <"James Gockel" > <flibbertigibbet007_at_hotmail_dot_com>> says... > >> Not to contradict, but the aritcle states >> "it still packs a Pentium M ULV 600 and Wacom just like on a TabletPC. >> The >> screen is not touch-sensitive though" >> Maybe yes the author doesnt understand how tablet pcs work.. or maybe >> just >> stating that as a good thing..
