I had no problem upgrading mine using the network redist of Service Pack 2 (SP2 includes Tablet PC 2005 update): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...5-9e368d3cdb5a Windows Update install should also work just fine, but I didn't test it. As that tablet uses MUI, you might want to download the Tablet PC 2005 MUI update if you installed any non EN-US language: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...0-f8d3331c89a3 Also, new ones should be shipping with SP2 by now. -- Philippe Majerus Microsoft MVP - Mobile Devices (http://support.microsoft.com/support/mvp) Software, Documentation and stuff - http://www.phm.lu |

| Re: Xplore iX104 Tablet PC Thanks for your response. Specifically I am buying what looks like a used model on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW So.. wondering if this is a bargain, if I can upgrade. I appreciate your response. | Re: Xplore iX104 Tablet PC Thanks for your response. I'm looking at an ebay item http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW I'm thinking you have answered my question. Do you know what type of memory it would need to upgrade to 512? Thanks in Advance. | Re: Xplore iX104 Tablet PC I didn't look at it, but I would make darn sure it includes ALL OEM disks with it as a condition of purchase. Some people sell machines without the original OEM recovery disks, and you're plain stuck. There's nothing the OEM can do, and nothing Microsoft can do in that case. The operating system and Tablet PC Edition superset are not available off-the-shelf. As for memory, I would check the OEM's web site and see what the upgrade capabilities are for RAM (max for the system) and then check www.crucial.com for the matching stick. -- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...ts/nichol.mspx In memory of a true friend, Windows MVP Alex Nichol Chris H. | ix104 memory From what I understand unless purchased through one of the "value added resellers" you will received no support for this tablet. Not that you can't find support groups on the net though. Here is a link for memory that is a fraction of the cost some vendors are charging. http://www.memoryx.net/xpme.html In have a box of new Cisco wifi cards, and the required cables, that work with the ix104. Do an ebay search for ix104 and you'll see them if interested. I use two of these for work and they hold up nicely. |

Here is some info on a project I did with these "cancelled contract" units: http://www.peter2000.co.uk/ix104/index.html I also upgraded mine via the microsoft.com windows update feature to sp2 and the usual masses of security fixes. Xplore themselves explicitly don't support any of these units and you won't get any support from any of Xplore dealers either. Best to buy the 512MB version from Espre Partners; upgrading the ix104 involves installing what looks like a standard laptop 512MB module (there is a total of ONE memory slot) but unless you know exactly which type to get this is best avoided. These are really great tablets; a genuine 5hr battery life with everything going flat out, performance as good as any desktop with that spec, and configuring a mobile wifi+gprs+bluetooth connectivity solution is entirely feasible. I would be tempted by the All-View screen but nobody will retrofit that onto these "unsupported" units, and a proper new one from a dealer will be about 3x the price. What new things does Tablet 2005 version do? Peter. -- Return address is invalid to help stop junk mail. E-mail replies to peter1124@peter2000XY.co.uk but remove the X and the Y. |

The item description does not state anywhere if this is the plain XP Pro, or XP Pro Tablet Edition. No "upgrades" exist from XP Pro to XP Pro Tablet edition. Tablet 2005 is installed in SP2 only onto the XP Pro Tablet Edition, and on XP Pro you get the plain SP2 no matter what. => you should ask the seller which XP edition is included with this item - otherwise you can end up with an expensive "laptop"... There are some XP Pro Tablet CD2 images on peer-to-peer filesharing, but I don't know if you can actually use these together with your XP Tablet licence and a standard XP Pro CD (CD1) to "upgrade", nor how legal this would be (e.g. is your licence for the XP Tablet OS and not the install media, etc) - Jan |

| Re: Xplore iX104 Tablet PC I wouldn't touch a file-shared version. You have no idea what's in it in the first place, and secondly there will be problems down the road. Besides the licensing issues, since OEM machines have their own PIDs on the cases. -- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...ts/nichol.mspx In memory of a true friend, Windows MVP Alex Nichol Chris H. | re:ix104 A look on the xplore website lists drivers for installing xp pro on the ix104. Didn't take the time to read all the info but it looks like you can end up with a usable tablet. http://xploretech.com/index.pl?id=33...tegory&op=show |
