| Help!!!! I need Windows Tablet PC Edition Software Can anyone please help I have an Acer TravelMate C100 and do not have the recovery discs. Acer does not have them anymore. Does anyone out there have them that would be willing to make a copy for me. I would be glad to pay for them. I still have My Windows Product Key. I would also settle for a copy of just Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. Again I have the product key. If no one does does anyone know if I can convert a copy of Windows XP Professional edition to work on a tablet PC. Thanks, Brad S. |

| Re: Help!!!! I need Windows Tablet PC Edition Software Hopefully Acer furnishes recovery disks for the model the Original Poster has, which should not be difficult since there are no antique Tablet PCs. Why do we keep hearing stories of people being unable to get recovery disks? Why do some Tablet PC manufacturers not ship the disks routinely? It seems like a minor cost saving with little clear benefit to the hardware manufacturer. | Re: Help!!!! I need Windows Tablet PC Edition Software Good bargains on EBay, Mickey? I haven't seen a Tablet PC yet that doesn't ship from an OEM with recovery disks of some sort, either CD or DVD, even if they might access a hidden drive on the hard drive. That doesn't mean, however, that a source other than the OEM won't sell a Tablet without the proper software included. Buyer beware. 8-) -- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...ts/nichol.mspx In memory of a true friend, Windows MVP Alex Nichol Chris H. | Re: Help!!!! I need Windows Tablet PC Edition Software Ya, I called Acer and they said they no longer cary the recovery disc for my model but I can send them the computer and they will reload the software for $200.00. So it would make sence that if they can reload the software from there ghost image they could copy the ghost image to a blank cd-r and send that to me. | Re: Help!!!! I need Windows Tablet PC Edition Software Which model Tablet PC is that? If they're shipping with a hidden partition containing their recovery version of the operating system, with a means of accessing it (like the case with the drivers and applications CD), there isn't much that can be done. I'm not sure about Gateway specifically, but some OEMs do give the users instructions about creating their own system CDs. -- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...ts/nichol.mspx In memory of a true friend, Windows MVP Alex Nichol Chris H. | Re: Help!!!! I need Windows Tablet PC Edition Software well gateway is doing it on all their machines now. I bought my tablet before this issue. But my girlfriend bought a laptop from gateway, and she decided not to buy the burner. (I didn't think she'd need it.) So we get the machine, and it has no install disks. and their support says, we don't have disks, you're supposed to make them when you get the computer. with the cdburner. No cd burner, no cds. No cds (Anywhere) of the drivers or windows install. So we are S.O.L. when the waranty is up and if the HD is damaged. (and don't say that it cant get damaged, my dad damaged his a few months ago. No recoverable data. Its not likely, but what if we want a bigger HD?) It's just my opinion that even the idea of the medialess was bad. also the extra partition takes up what 1 gig of space that could've been used for other purposes? like maybe a swap file ;-) -James "Chris H." wrote: > Which model Tablet PC is that? | Re: Help!!!! I need Windows Tablet PC Edition Software The problem is you didn't get the drive to enable burning the CDs. 8-) Not that it is anyone's fault, but the method can still work, except via an external drive. Then you're okay for that particular hardware. Remember, when you get to a point where you're altering the original configuration even the OEM isn't going to honor any warranties. -- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...ts/nichol.mspx In memory of a true friend, Windows MVP Alex Nichol Chris H. | Re: Help!!!! I need Windows Tablet PC Edition Software If you have a Tablet PC with an external CD burner maybe you could plug the CD burner into the other computer and make a backup CD. I'm trying to think of a reason the hardware manufacturers think it is better for you to burn the CD than for them to ship a mass-produced OS CD. The cost saving is minimal, particularly compared to the loss of brand loyalty when a backup CD is needed and not available. Is the OS CD that you burn by yourself specific to the CPU that generated it? Maybe this is an anti-piracy measure. I can't think of any other rationale that makes sense. Many users won't follow instructions to burn a CD when they get a new computer unless it is made really easy and a blank CD is provided.
