IIS On M200

Guys

Is IIS installed by default on the M200 when it arrives? If not does
anyone know if it is available from the disks that are supplied with
the machine?

Cheers

Tom

IIS is never installed by default on Windows XP, however, it is
available through Add/Remove Programs - Windows Components.
While an OEM maybe not provide anything beyond an automated recovery CD,
they have to provide the same ability to add Windows components as if
you walked into a retail store and bought a product CD off the shelf.

Thanks, I understand all this, that is why i am asking the question.
Maybe i need to be more specific:

Has anyone go or had experiencet an M200 which comes with XP Pro
preinstalled and a recovery disk but no optical drive. Assuming, as
will all out of the box Windows installation IIS is not included, is
it on the recovery disk (i.e. there is a standard OEM version of
windows on there) or am o going to have to come up with another
source?

Thanks

Tom

I answered your question. Regardless of what the OEM provides in the way
of media containing the TabletPC bits, you will have the bits required
to install any and all optional components, including IIS. Period.

Re: IIS On M200

Tom, IIS is an uninstalled component of Windows XP, and as such all you need
do is go into Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs and the Add/Remove
Windows Components. The XP system installs IIS for you from there. It is
one of the "system" items, residing within the Windows structure. You don't
need a CD or anything.

This is simply not true. There is no such thing as a "system" item and
the IIS bits are not already laying around the Windows directory
structure.

No, they won't Chris. On an OEM install, it **maybe** that the OEM has
placed the contents of the i386 tree somewhere on the hard drive but
that does not make IIS some kind of magic "system" component where the
files are already installed. The same process that occurs on a non-OEM
install needs to take place, which includes copying the files to the
correct locations, registering any required DLLs, making the necessary
registry changes etc.
In addition, you can't make a blanket statement that this applies to all
OEM installs because it simply isn't the case.

Fine. I have three different brands here right now, and all worked that
way. No call for any CD or recovery media.

Great, good for you. Still doesn't make IIS some kind of "system"
component that doesn't require the normal installation process.
