| Re: tablet pc market in the UK is dead...when will we see mini tablets Maybe. That is exactly one of the biggest mistakes Microsoft made in marketing the current crop of Tablet PCs, taking aim at the wrong market. Colleges and universities, with thousands of people on the go, needing quick access to their information, would seem to be an excellent place to start. -- Chris H. Calendar management maybe but not notes - thats what I bought the tablet for. i cant do that on any palm I have tried. a couple of spider like words on the page and that is it. I do sales on my palm though.. well, zodiac. And gps on my pocketPC (in fact it just lives in the car). -- Woody www.alienrat.com |

| Re: tablet pc market in the UK is dead...when will we see mini tablets Seeing the prototype close up, believe me, it will NOT fit in a pocket, unless it's a very, very large one. It's also not expected to be in the realm of reality until post Longhorn, 2007-2008. It's certainly small by today's standards, but some of the other models shown were just as large, although probably thinner than today's models. terri "Mickey Segal" <not_monitored@example.com> wrote in message news:OTW1MxlSFHA.3144@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... > The whole idea of the smaller Tablets is that they will fit in a pocket. > The pocket being aimed at is a sport jacket pocket or the equivalent. | Re: tablet pc market in the UK is dead...when will we see mini tablets The idea is not an existing pocket on jackets, but rather a pocket a bit larger than the current inside high pockets, moved down to a position similar to the outside bottom pockets, but on the inside for security reasons. Judging from this video of a normal size person handling the prototype: http://www.tabletpccorner.net/news_p...7_whec2005.wmv it would work fine if one could produce a device this thin and light enough. OQO used the inside high pocket in their original video, but their computer is a bit to small and a bit too thick (as well as being a bit too slow and not a Tablet PC). There will be no problem getting the clothing manufacturers to move pockets around. They would be glad to have a reason to drive upgrades for current customers and glad to have a reason for new customers to buy a sport jacket. You know, it really doesn't make a lot of difference. If a tablet PC is small enough to fit in a pocket, like a PDA, it BECOMES a PDA that just happens to run Windows XP Tablet Edition instead of PalmOS or Windows CE. The capabilities of this type of product are largely determined by hardware. The capabilities of the hardware determine the design of the software. If Windows XP were adapted to make a pocket-size computer work effectively, most of the significant differences between Windows XP and PalmOS would disappear. For some perspective, think about the market for the type of tablets made by Boise Cascade. According to the Office Depot web site they are readily available in four sizes from 3x5" to 8½x14", but if you watch what people use, you will find that 8½x11" is by far the most popular, even though it won't fit in your pocket. There's a reason for that. My email address is LLM041103 at earthlink dot net. |
