How can I purchase a legimate copy of Tablet PC Edition?

I want to purchase a copy of XP Tablet PC Edition to run on a Sony VAIO U70.
Although it ships with XP Pro, I know that it can run Tablet as I've read
reviews from people who have tried it.

Everybody seems to be using an MSDN subscription to obtain a copy, but this
is neither practical nor legit as it's not for developing on.

Why can it not be purchased off the shelf?

Sorry, it is only available on an OEM Tablet PC as the original install
media. If you're a developer, and can afford an MSDN subscription, you
could obtain it there for developmental use only.

Re: How can I purchase a legimate copy of Tablet PC Edition?

If anyone is watching this thread from MS, I too would like to get Tablet PC
on my Sony U750P. Unfortunately, this series of tablet PCs seem to be in
"flavor of the month" mode from Sony so we probably won't see an OEM version
available.

I bet there are more than a few of us who would pay $9.99, $19.99?? for the
ability to download and add this to our systems.

Re: How can I purchase a legimate copy of Tablet PC Edition?

There are two sources, as I posted before. On an OEM Tablet PC or via an
MSDN subscription for development purposes only.

Re: How can I purchase a legimate copy of Tablet PC Edition?

Sony doesn't offer the OEM Tablet PC that I can find.
I'm not willing to spend $699 on an MSDN subscription just so I can get
Tablet PC.

Re: How can I purchase a legimate copy of Tablet PC Edition?

Not only that, but you actually need to be a developer to live by the EULA
of installation. Microsoft opened up the Media Center Edition (another
superset) to purchase with corresponding hardware, and there are all kinds
of problems now because people just don't understand what hardware
requirements are for MCE to run properly. 8-)

Re: How can I purchase a legimate copy of Tablet PC Edition?

Ah... that makes sense. It would probably cost more to support the unwashed
masses who try to install on a non-tablet PC. Arggg...

Re: How can I purchase a legimate copy of Tablet PC Edition?

The Tablet PC hardware requirements
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/mobility/tabletpc/hardware/) are not easily
"created." 8-)
